Hi guys

These Luftwaffe bicycle troops are finally finished, I will be adding to the group some supporting elements, MGs, mortars etc and this horse mounted company commander, not sure if I should do a head swap on him, I’m also tossing up the idea of making a figure for General Bulkhalter, Colonel Klinks commanding officer from the show to lead the Luftwaffe field Division, being a fat officer in a greatcoat, I’ll probably need to sculpt him, my only issue is that he is Heer not Luftwaffe, however, with the LWFD being given over to the Heers control in 43 there probably some scope to fit him in.

Cyclists. An enemy force we can all unite in despising.  lol Refreshing not to see them in lycra.

Nicely painted and based btw.

German issued Lycra, something nobody wants to see.

Available in flecktarn and oak tree patterns at the very least.

Yes but late war German lycra was notable for its shoddy construction and varying dye batches.

The shoddy construction explains all those wardrobe malfunctions.

Much mind bleach required. However the wardrobe malfunctions were possibly not so inadvertent. Familiarise yourself with the concept of Freikörperkultur and the German propensity to get their kit off at the drop of a hat.

These are really great.

One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen…….a few years ago we were performing in a tattoo at the NIA Birmingham.    I nearly killed myself running into hand to hand in segs on a polished floor……but I digress.  What came on after us, was a World War One Dutch Bicycle mounted band….and they were AWESOME!

Interesting, I assume they didn’t play whilst cycling? That’d be more a circus act, what was your role in the tattoo? Are you a service member? I’m former Royal Australian Artillery, gunner than forward observer signaller, hand to hand? I’m sure there’s a good story there.

They certainly did play whilst cycling!   They simply controlled movement with forward and reverse peddling and presumably leaning to steer.   One or two even had full glockenspiels mounted above the handlebars, kettle drums on each side etc….brilliant.

No, not in the services, simply 17th century historical reenactor.  We were there to make a lot of noise is all.

Impressive but in 1940 all the Germans needed to do was park on the side of the road and open their doors as the cyclists came level. ;)
