 Hi guys

I’ve started on the basing portion of the Soviet assault pioneer project, I’m a modeller/ collector rather than a gamer, so going more for austhetics than practicality, assault pioneers have a specialised role, assaulting fortified positions, so ideal for capturing fortified buildings in urban areas, so they will be added to my Stalingrad project with urban basing, I stopped off at my local hobby shop, and they just so happened to have the Italeri 1/72 walls and ruins set, here I have based the HMG team and a HQ on the 2 building sections from the set with a little extra detail.

With a rope, dismantle and haul, wouldn’t be that heavy, could probably carry it up the ladder, I once carried a dismantled .50cal (just the body, not the barrel), it weighs about 27kg, in my pack, that was heavy, with all my other gear, real heavy, I could have climbed a ladder with it as a young guy.

Nice bit of modelling.

I'd be more worried about the floor holding all that weight given the only visible sign of support is the joist on the front wall. Ladder looks a bit dodgy too. Personally speaking, I'd be looking at getting an OH&S rep to put a PIN notice on that practice. :D

Meh, such things are of little concern when it comes to defending the motherland.

 Hi guys

Making slow but steady progress on the 1/72 Soviet assault pioneers, conversions are done, and I’m onto the basing, I’m giving each assault section its own theme, all under the overall urban theme, railway, thick fence and brick wall, then all the supporting elements will have a general urban base, I’ve 3D printed a Gaz 67 car for my commander and some Gaz AA trucks as transport.

Excellent!
I recommend arming your assault pioneers with several antitank rifles or a large-caliber DShK machine gun, they were used to fire at embrasures of firing points, as well as to defeat the enemy behind the walls of buildings and fences. They were also often given 45mm anti-tank guns or 76mm regimental guns (small, similar to mountain guns) - these guns were relatively easy to move through the streets of the ruined city to provide direct support to the attackers.

And also a heavy tank or self-propelled gun was provided to destroy buildings if necessary.

Yes, I’ve still got a fair bit to add to this project, this is just an update so far.

 Hi guys

A bit of a WIP update of my 1/72 Soviet assault pioneers, just getting the base coats down, so they are only 50% done, but I’m liking how they are turning out.

 Hi guys

Finished this commission of mixed 20mm figures, British 1940 BEF infantry, a single stand of Germans, and a group of BAOR (British army of the Rhine) also the first plane I have finished to completion in 40 years, a German Henschel 123A1 dive bomber, it won’t win any aircraft modelling competitions, but it’s OK as a gaming piece, I have hoarded a good collection of planes for my own projects, but have been diligently avoiding them, but I think this will give me the inspiration to make a few.
