Finished my allied unit for the Saurian army:

Illithid Space Wizards

There are strange things in the universe, call it what you will; Psychic Powers, Magic, Quantum Portability Manipulation, Saurians just don't seem able to do it. So when Saurian Amalgamated Security need some mental might, they outsource. Illithid Space Wizards, clad in their Star-Metal suits can harass the enemy with various rays and spells to support Saurian Mercs on the battlefield.

This squad will see play as a Psychic Choir in games of 40K.

Found some time over the Holiday period to get some work done:

Saurian Colour Sergeant.

Hoping to finish this army before too long into the new year, but time and school will tell.

Played a game of Firefight last night, 1000 points of Plague vs Space Wolves (Enforcers).

My Sci-Fi/Post Apoc table, now 90% finished!

Space Wolf Deployment.

Plague Deployment.

End of Turn 1. The Plague advances behind their zombie hordes, which do not count to Victory Points, but soak fire well. Plague shooting proves to be ineffective, but keeps the Space Marine Scouts' (Enforcer Pathfinders) heads down.

End of Turn 2. The Zombie bulwark has broken and real fire is being exchanged, with the Space Wolves taking the worse casualties. The dreaded Plague Super-Zombies (2nd Gen Leapers) have made contact with the Space Wolf Dreadnought (Strider) and are tearing chunks off the walker.

End of Turn 3. The Space Marine Assault Squad (Assault Enforcer Breach and Eradicate Squad) make their glorious charge on the Plague Hovertank (Lancer Battle Tank), but fail to do much damage. On the right flank, the Space Wolf forces are greatly reduced and the Plague are consolidating objectives.

End of Turn 4. The Space Wolves have taken the left flank, but have lost everything except the Cyber-Wolf (Strider) and Wolven Lord (Enforcer Captain). Colonel America (1st Gen Mutant) chases down the Cyber-Wolf to prevent any stray shots knocking the Cultists (3rd Gens) off their objective.

Turn 5/6. With no targets presenting themselves, both sides focus on capturing objectives for the remainder of the game.

Results:
Plague - 21 VP
Space Wolves - 9 VP

Really liking this game, the hidden objectives and Orders make for an interesting experience and each army (there are 7 in the book) has a very different feel and different strategies to use. That said, I'm seeing how 1250 points is the recommended starting army size rather than 1000; in our game, the Enforcers simply could not put down enough fire to keep the Plague at bay and the Plague only had a couple of options to take out the Enforcer Striders. However, for a platoon-level game, Firefight has a leg up over competitors in fast play and ease of entry whilst still having depth of strategy and options for the player. I'm honestly shocked that it's not lighting more fires under those of us that grew up out 2nd and 3rd Edition 40K and are looking for something to "scratch that itch".

Looking good. Repeating Dr. The Viking, where do you get the rules from?

Ok, so Mantic did a Kickstarter last year for their new version of Warpath. One of the extras was the "Firefight" system, a similar idea, but with more "platoon" sized armies to sit in-between Warpath and Deadzone in terms of mini count. As far as I know the rules aren't yet commercially available, but will hopefully be soon.

As the Space Wolf player in that and a previous match up against the Plague I can say its a quick and fun game.
But I'm not convinced that pushing it to 1250 would correct the balance issues of Enforcers vs The Plague. Im happy to try a bit more but with the numbers of guys the plague can put down I just cant see the Enforcers ever being a solid match up.

Second squad of Cultists finished:

Really finding that these are painting up quickly, which is great, as the vehicles for the army look like a real pain.

Finished another Saurian vehicle, the Smilodon Mobile Artillery Vehicle.

Saurians for scale.

Captured in battle against The Earth Federation, the Smilodon has become a vital piece of warfighting equipment for Saurian Amalgamated, providing autonomous support fire in a manner which the Saurian mortar crews never quite manage. Over the years of service, the Smilodon has been inexpertly repaired, often with bodged parts and when short on time, so it has become less reliable, but most officers would be lost without it.

Converted 1/144 Gundam Guntank from Bandai, fielded as an Allied Forge Father Jotun Weapons Platform in Firefight or Basilisk in 40K.

What's this? Just some Saurains you've seen before?

Nope! They've been upgraded to Communications Troopers for Firefight!

I made the Comms units blue as a tribute to my old Army Cadet unit; we had to paint our Jerry Cans bright blue because Cadets kept losing the green ones in the bush.

Also, fist Cultists transport finished:

Converted and repainted toy Garbage Truck from K-Mart, functioning as a Plague Mule Transport.
