Small, Far Away: 15mm Welsh for the Dark Ages
« on: December 31, 2021, 09:05:36 PM »
In what is clearly a mid-life crisis of miniature proportions, I have recently been dabbling with 15mm Dark Ages Welsh.  Tempted by the forthcoming Wiglaf Miniatures (sculpted by Mark Copplestone), I jumped the gun and ordered some of the rather nice Forged In Battle figures.  These are painted mostly with GW Contrast paints and based on 80 x 40mm unit bases.  The leader model is on a 20mm round base and can be taken out of his bodyguard for single combats and other essential duties.

I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to play with these - most probably my own Midgard rules and Dan Mersey's new Age of Penda set - but it's been fun doing them so far.  Photos are on my own terrain with a background from Jon Hodgson Maps, as usual.

There's a full run down and step-by-step painting on my blog should you wish to see more:

Those look brilliant! That’s a good number of figures on each base, and having detachable leader bases is a great idea. Quite nice painting, too!

Those look very nice indeed.

Not a scale I've really worked with before but the new Wiglaf Miniatures do look very interesting and I'm tempted to pick some up when they are released.

Amazing looking!

By coincidence, I just got the FiB dark age generals character set and there was a mysterious 15th figure, not in the images. From the FiB text it turned out to be Gruffadd ap Llywelyn.

He sounds suspiciously like one of yours! I thought you should know:)

They look very good, and the FiB figures are lovely aren't they? Almost tempting enough to do a whole little army perhaps...  ::) ;)
