I am looking at gaming the 100yw - crecy and Poitiers period.
I know front rank do lots of 100yw figures.

I would and did use mainly Front Rank for my French Crecy and Poitiers time period army. They are ideal as they have mixed armour and though some Foot and mounted Knights/Men at Arms have White Harness, you will note a lot have heater shields and bucklers which was far less common in the later period of Agincourt

I would say that these are ideal for the period you want to cover

ok thanks guys,
i bought this stuff from another gamer so it has all sorts in there.
my thinking is that for the dismounted men at arms, the first 9 codes (HR25-33) are fine which have cyclas surcoats or short surcoats with varios helmets and swords etc.
I was thinking that figures armed with short lance and no shield, polearms, two handed sword and no shield or white harness are too late.
Any way i have tried attaching some photos to help...
sorry about this but will also post longbow and billmen also...

I think they are all fine to use, and they are very nicely painted too

If doing French for Crecy your main force will be Genoese xbowmen with mainly mounted knights and MAA however that's not to say you cant fit in foot knights and MAA as otherwise you will be limited to merely pitched battles and your foot knights will be good for skirmish and sieges raids etc

thanks for the speedy response.
And now for th english archers and billmen milita etc.
I assume archers in tunics and hoods etc are fine.
its the others with helmets etc that is aa bit confusing..
comments welcome! :D

BTW i also have the old perry metal bretonnian guisarme figures with kettle hat which i think are great for french milita. Has anyone used the perry bretonnian spearmen in mail for anything?

Although i´m not an expert i would avoid using the archers with the armoured legs.
I think they are the only ones outdated, perhaps 1 or 2 helmets too but mixed, i think they will work.
Nice painting by the way. :-*

I pretty much have the whole line myself. FR makes it tough because the range is all over the map. As has been already stated, most of the archers are a bit late (more mid conflict and not early campaigns). For the first 20 years or so I'd keep archers more poorly armored.

My feeling is that a lot of the infantry is on the cusp of period appropriate. You can probably get away with it. There are plenty of early knights with cyclas or jupons but there are also some decidedly post 1400 poses (avoid all the personality models, obviously).

I'm first and foremost a fan of the Perry's work but I have to admit FR paints up really well. They are chunky, and I don't like their crossbows or horses, but in spite of those things I still think its a solid range.

Cheers,
Fred

Thanks Fred, lowtardog and Darrell.
Fred- I'm glad im not the only one who has problems with sorting through the front rank range!
I think your comments confirm what I thought also..
Generally poorly dressed longbowmen and Knights in mail and plate with shields.
I assume the same with the billmen- meaning less armoured?
I know there were spearman , x bowmen and Pavisers but I dont have any of those figures yet
I was thinking of suitable billmen etc for french militia..

Any thoughts on perry bretonnian spearman?
Many thanks
Peter

Those figures look really nice - especially with your great paint jobs.

I don't know if you have your heart set upon the FR stuff but Claymore Castings have started to produce a Crecy range all based upon contemporaneous evidence. The rage will have some real gems in (I know- I have seen the pics of the upcoming range) and will serve your needs much better than FR. you could even mix and match though there is a size difference. The Claymore Castings also have much more dynamic poses as they were all sculpted by Paul Hicks and Matthew Bickley.

Darrell.

Were I starting to collect 14th century from scratch today, I would definitely start with Claymore Castings. They fill a void in the available model timeline very nicely (and with real quality models).

The only reason I haven't added them to my current projects (besides already being awash in models) is that they are very premium priced and there is no way I would escape an order without spending several hundred USDs.
