Freebie figure with Wargames Illustrated
« on: May 08, 2015, 11:51:59 AM »
If you bought WI at salute they were giving away a lovely free figure, meant to be Simon De Montfort but here I have painted him as a generic crusader. All colours and heraldry made up as I went along.

Great figure, anyone know who sculpted it? Well done to them whoever they are.

It wasn't me. Honest. This big monkey did it and ran off.

Ooo that is one good looking figure. I really wish I went to Salute. No idea who did it, but its a nice figure. Great painting too. It would be a beautiful addition to any crusader army!  :)

Nice  :-* :-* :-*

I have to commend you on getting the no colour on a colour and no metal on a metal bit right as it was a real no-no in Western European Heraldry.... a bit like giving a WWII Brit Pink Webbing if you're with me?  :)

Nice job! Anything on the shield?

Same lion rampant heraldry as the front. Sculpted on. Not too keen on sculpted on shield designs, the modeller in me gets upset at the scale of it. Scaled up the shield would have a 5.6cm thick raised lion on it. Also it was a bit broken cos of getting knocked about on the way back from salute. I just painted it the same colours to look ok on the table, so no pics.

Thanks!

I live with a high ranking officer in the heraldry police. Not worth it to get it wrong. And from an artistic point of view the rules of heraldry tend to make things look better anyway. Despite what Anvil say, Metal on Metal is never a good thing.

You have a lot to be thankful for J  lol

Yeah, I reckon that was at least part of what they were thinking when they drew the laws up- the clearer it looks the easier to recognise the chap on the battlefield.

Brilliant work as per  :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
