Thank you for the kind comments guys.

Top rate shields really make or break an ancients unit. Yours are superb.

The credit must got to LBMS and some judicious dry brushing!

Needing some archers, I selected some plastic Vitrix Greek's for the job.

My first foray into plastics, I covered the minis with a wash of Humbrol Matt Cote and put on some Ravi Shanker before beginning painting.

I added beards, patches and changed some hair styles.

Bow strings courtesy of my cats Boots and Scruff.

I'll admit that I wasn't entirely happy with the heads, so I may clean up another mini and see if they look better when raised a little, (I'll infill the neck with Duro).

Thank you for looking.

Stuart.   :)

Some Leves.

I chose to dry brush their tunics, give them a more plebeian appearance.
I've added the beards, patches and the hairstyle changes.

Mid-Republican Romans are among my favourites, and yours are serious business. I like the conversions you've done here, very effective.

The range by Aventine is likely the best choice for that period. Not sure how they match up with other manufacturers both in scale and style (maybe a topic for our Comparison thread…). Those Victrix models, nice as they are, seem to differ a lot from the more stylised Aventine models. The same might go for the range by Crusader, and it's definitely the case with Agema, Foundry (old Perry sculpts) and Gripping Beast.

I only plan on painting this army once, so where possible I'll get out the 'green stuff' and make some changes to most minis, even if its a different hair style or adding jewellery.

Another update guys,

A few more Leves, again dry-brushed the tunics for a rough look:

Another view:

The two groups together:

Henceforth, known by his tent party as 'Felix'

Thank you for looking and the kind words of support.

Some more Princips...

I re-posed all the shield arms and wanting them to look like they've been in battle, I really 'muddied up' the shields.
I've made a start on the second Princips unit and plan to make even more changes to them.

The two Princips sets brought together:

I was fairly satisfied with the results, less parade ground, more a battle worn appearance...

Thank you for looking.
