My cool mom bought me Beyond the Reach of Empire for Christmas. :)

That's the one book that Mike Snook has written that I haven't read yet, I've read Go Strong into the Desert (obviously) and the two Zulu War titles (which I highly recommend and not just for those interested in Colonial wargaming) but for some unfathomable reason the book I really want to read most of all has escaped me thus far.

It's on my list for Partizan in just over a week if I can find a copy. If not then I'll order from a certain online book seller!  :)

Darrell.

I haven't read Snook's Zulu war books yet, hopefully this year.

I know Mom got mine off Amazon, she's good about gifts. :)

They are both a brilliant read, thoroughly researched. It's also worth mentioning that both volumes are best read in tandem as the accounts interlink.

No problem with talking about other rules, don't worry about it Zulu
The Victorian Outpost

Its a new gaming place in Grimsby with new terrain and new scenery, lots of respect for all wargamers and is the best place to game in town.

Anybody who wishes to visit the venue to arrange a game then  just pm me and lets roll those dice.

X. Cell. Lent. !    This is why I stick with 15 mm for all my periods.  Large numbers of figures on a table and still plenty of open space between the figures for maneuvering.  And ranges that don't look patently absurd.

I also like, in the photos here, that most of the figure bases blend in nicely with the terrain which really enhances the effect - only saw one base a bit off color and it was easily accepted as a spot of dirt rather than glaring out too strong.

Then there are elements of the logistical tail with out which armies don't move added in and they don't overwhelm the scene like they so often do in larger scale gaming.

And, hey, no one, yet, has complained about the red coats!  I plan to paint mine in red coats, too.

Amongst the nicest looking games I've ever seen presented.  Peter Gilder would have been proud (though possibly annoyed you didn't use Connoisseur figures).

Well done, lad, well done.

I'm planning baggage camels and such for my 28mm forces, it's going to get expensive though. :)

And I'll have some guys in Red, that's actually what grabbed me about the Mahdist Wars was the chance for so much variety in a historical OOB.

Yes, Anna thinks war is a fashion show. XD

That is a lovely and impressive force, Zuluwar. :)

It's so fun to see painted armies, and Camel Corps is always a treat. :)

Well, if you think about the uniforms and clothing of soldiers over the centuries that's no such an outlandish thing to say.

I'm thinking Landsknechts and their 'Plunderhosen', perhaps i shouldn't..... I've just eaten  lol lol

Ha-ha! Well, fashions change, I guess.

I'm quite sure Marshal Murat was a born Fashionista, and I'm betting that many, many cavalry types were as well. XD

Even in the Sudan, I'm sure Sir Garnet and the Column strove to look their sharpest.

Indeed..... I reckon most men are the same as women anyway.... just in a slightly different way  :) We're all quite fashion orientated, even wargamers  :D

XD I'm glad to hear you admit it. Look at photos of Sir Garnet Wolseley, or HRH The Duke of Connaught - they totally "strike a pose". They knew they looked good in uniform, and they wanted everyone else to know as well. :)
