City sewage workers must be rather small  ???

Otherwise, all in all a cracking board.  :)

They keep the manhole covers small to prevent the sewer monsters/crocodiles/ninja turtles escaping.  ;)

I hadn't realised that they would be so small when I ordered them - the other items in the set are scaled much better.

Sorry I'm late to the party, but you could maybe have saved yourself a bit of cash on the paint/wash side of thing. I don't know where you're from but B&Q (other hardware stores are available! ;))
and pound shops are your friends here.

I've used tester pots from B&Q for the concrete colour and watered down a cheap acrylic black from Poundland as a wash for the my boards. Once the wash is dry, just drybrush the crap out of it with the concrete colour again and then maybe add some white to it and do the same again.

That looks fantastic - you've managed to get a far more natural look than I have.

So last night I tackled the parking bays. Masking tape to the ready!

I'm really happy with how they turned out.

So that's the basic layout complete - I just need to find a day when the weather's nice to try and seal the boards with some matt varnish.

But of course I'm not really done ... I still have the park/graveyard insert to do. I have cut some plasticard to shape to sit in the park area. This will now need painting and flocking and the various bits and pieces to go on it will need completing too.

The park inserts are now finished. I can now convert the tile from a parking lot to a park and back again depending on which part of the city I am gaming in.

I wanted these inserts to get quite tough so I glued two layers of plasticard together and then went a little overboard working on them.
1) Sand the top layer to roughen them up.
2) Glued sand to them with PVA
3) Prime them grey
4) Overpaint with liqutex lava paint
5) Spray them grey again (to mask the glittery bits from the lava paint)
6) Paint them brown
7) Highlight with lighter brown
8) Flock with old style scatter flock
9) Seal with diluted PVA
10) Add patches of static flock (two different colours)
I think the end result looks pretty good and should stand up to the rigours of play - it was just a bit of a faff getting there.

Now to move on to stage 2 of the park - and paint up some items to go in it.

This is a great thread, need to start fallowing it.

After a bit of a gap I have done a bit more work on this project and painted up some pieces to go on the park.

Firstly a couple of park benches from Mantic's Mars Attacks accessories. Now the park looks like a park A couple of trash cans from the stock I have already painted up will complete the picture nicely. I think the hedges from my fantasy scenery work pretty well in this context too.

And then the graveyard. The grave stones are from Renedra. I was initially considering mounting them on strips but ended up basing them individually when I found another use for the strip bases I had bought.

The graveyard is likely to feature heavily in this Halloween's game of "And Stay Down!" when it will be time to break out the Zombies once again.

I like the breaking bad theme. Nicely done.

Some more bits and bobs to go on the table top and give some cover. These are more items from the Mantic Mars Attacks range. The hot dog stand is resin and was available via the Kickstarter campaign whilst the other bits are all hard plastic from the 20th century brick urban accessories pack.

If the Halloween game goes ahead then I will now have more junk for the junk yard giving the survivors more places to forage for equipment and supplies.
