the triple alliance war
« on: October 13, 2008, 11:32:02 PM »
A small dream I ever had, start to becomes true:
New book by Foundry:
http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/books/TPWAR.asp
it is about the triple alliance war or the great paraguayan war!

Up to the moment apart some south american minis [mostly similar or conversions of Foundry] there was not any dedicated range [except ofcourse Freikorps 15 in 15 mm]. Hope that someone will issue some range of minis for this extraordinary and disastrous  war.
Up to this time anyone wanted to game this particular war, had to rely on Foundry mexicans,  french chasseurs and zouaves and had to do massive conversions for the paraguayan forces.

I was surprised seeing that book anounced as most germans wouldn't even know of Paraguay if not for football players :D

btw - why did you post this in the VSF board?

Although this war was a real one and not science fiction, the era is within  the victorian ages, since it was occured at 1864-1870.

Maybe is not the correct board, so, the best again is to ask Malamute!

No problem with it being here, but it might be wise to post it on the Colonial board?

It's certainly a fascinating conflict and Terry Hooker is an expert on South American wars. I used to subscribe to his "El Dorado" magazine, which was very authoritative and well written, so I'm hoping it will be as good as the China And East Africa books - although for those wanting the East Africa book, there are apparently less than 50 left in stock! Small Wars and Skirmishes [also well worth having] is out of stock. It appears that Foundry are not going to keep reprinting their books - unless of course, this is just a cunning plan to make us panic buy!  ;)

I agree with Malamute, it would probably be better for this thread to move house to the Colonial board.

It's not really colonial to my mind, but it's definitely not VSF either. My vote would be for "Other Adventures", which is the catch-all area we have for all the stuff that doesn't fit in any of our main areas of interest.

Bit academic right now with the Prof. away (unless Knoxville is about). Moderators don't have the power to move topics between boards, only to mess with stuff on their own board. Malamute could delete it and then you could start it somewhere else. But is it really worth the hassle?

Those Foundry books really are wonderful, aren't they? I have altogether too many. Don't think I'll get this one, but it does look interesting.

It probably doesn't really matter where this topic is posted, as I suspect most people interested in VSF gaming also like Colonial and other mainstream 19thC stuff, so will read all relevant boards to get their fix.
