Did the Manchukuo puppet/client state retain any of the military elements of the defunct Qing (Ch'ing) dynasty?

I don't think so, From what I have read they where a japanese organised and trained army.

You might be interested in this upcoming Osprey on Imperial Armies from 1839 -1911.

Author is Philip Jowett who did the Ospreys on China Warlords, Civil war etc. The illustrator is Gerry Embleton but you will have to wait to next April.
