You may want to know that the Jacobean garment is not actually a kilt - but a Feidhlidh Mór (if my spelling is correct - a 'great wrapping' or a 'belted plaid').

The modern kilt (as it was re-invented by Her Imperial Majesty) is suspended from the waist with a separate shoulder-plaid, whereas the original garment is in one piece. I have one.  ;)

I was very tempted to get a full MacDonald pattern (no, not the yellow/red one...) tartan on our honeymoon trip to Scotland last year to celebrate my 1/16th Scottish heritage. I went with a Tweed jacked and a yellow moleskin waistcoat and a pair of brogues instead. I suppose I look like a twit in either getup.

Come, come my good man, I would venture to think you looked rather resplendent in the said outfit. The very picture of a modern English gentleman...Even though you are a Swede... ;)

When I think about how old I am getting, and stare mournfully into my beer reminiscing about my lost youth, I am always cheered up by the thought that I am now old enough to not look stupid in tweed.

I must see about getting some, really.

And kudos to Hammers, yellow waistcoat with tweeds, mmm-hmm, just right.  :D

Ah yes, tweed and brown brogues, maybe with a flat cap. That lot could go on my birthday list, although Mrs Maximus would have a heart attack after getting used to seeing me in Firefly and Rammstein t-shirts all the time  lol

...maybe with a flat cap.

I forgot, I got on of those on Skye. An Irish one though, but that seems ... just right.

What a great name for a Victorian explorer!

We're only joking, by the way, Hammers old chap. Hope your not offended.

You know, Hammers does have one of those really posh, aristo Swedish surnames... :)

I come from something slightly akin to an aristo background as well (Finland-Swedes) but you wouldn't believe it if you saw me.
