Having done the fun bit of playing with 'stuff' on the hangar floor, I now have to do some proper boring stuff and get this huge hangar done.

Lots of parts undercoated and taking shape.

Been playing with a bit of flour to help give that corroded look to cardboard. Think this works OK.

An idea of what the walls should look like when they come together - internal and external skin plus interior metal (if only) frame.

Windows should look something like this. Just cut acetate but it works quite well, and will look better once it has a layer of grime on. On reflection I wish I'd painted the frames a different colour, but too late now.

r

And a first go at weathering and additional panels which gives a feel for the final look I'm going for.

The roof was a pig. Part of the issue is working with just card and part of it is just me being impatient and not building in the most sensible order, so it didn't quite match up as it should and I've had to employ lots of additional bracing. Should all look fine once painted.

I've bought a nice little factory thing from Sarissa Precision to go on the outside as a tech building/workshop. Replaced the doors with something a little more modern.

Now I just need to weather it all, stick it together and put a roof on top so I can get on with the fun bit!

Mac

It's not big, or clever, but let's do it anyway

That looks good. The windows look very effective.

Great weathering  8)

I'm assuming the floor was stuck on with watered down pva/wood glue?
cheers

Actually I just dusted it on between spray coats and then shook off the excess. If I was quick enough the tackiness of the paint held it in place for the second coat. Bit hit and miss, but dead easy and avoids over soaking the cardboard, which I've had a couple of dramas with.

A couple of shots just to get across the size of this beast. The figure is a 28mm Hasslefree. It's big.

Looking good. I like the window frames in that colour. You're going to have plenty of colour in the piece.

And now the concrete floor starts to take shape...

And I've started on the roof. Cut a basic template from the original card roof provided, and turned it upside down so some corrugation shows on the inside of the hangar, and I'm building a better, more battered roof, from off cuts. I think it works quite nicely.

Brill, thank you  :)

And those roughed-up/twisted roof sheets are going to paint up nicely.

Stunning build.

I am loving this.  You are leaving the roof removable, I assume?

Have you thought about putting lights in it, since you could hide everything under the roof as far as wires and batteries?

Thanks all for the encouragement. That plus Easter seems to be powering the build!

I am indeed having the roof removable so the inside is firmly playable. There will be multiple levels and floor space in which to have a good dust-up.

I want to put some lights in, although they will be of the improvised variety I think. It is kinda demanding them isn't it? I won't be able to hide that much in the roof space as I am building it half wrecked, to show off the superstructure and, because, well post apocalypse. I don't think I could build something complete and un-rusty even if I tried these days.

put the lights in the walls?

Outstanding as always

Might I suggest these?
https://www.zinge.co.uk/collections/transparent-light-diffusers/lights

You could run two conductors along the wall and solder the LEDs across them then add a resistor at the end before the supply.

There are also various model railway light that might provide suitable lighting.

Thanks UVS and Storm wolf. I've got some of those from Zinge. They are great. I've also got some of the woodland scenics railway lighting, which is excellent. Very easy to configure and resistors already built in, to save a tech biff like me from soldering myself to the worktop.

The only issue is where to fit them and for that I'm going to wait until I've modelled some more of the inside, to see what looks best. I think a couple of wall hanging lights is the answer.

Roof mostly done now and ready for paint. I'll add a few tarps and bricks oo, but the base shape is now there.
