Veneer Floor Boards
« on: June 07, 2015, 11:24:34 PM »
We are about to take up some veneer flooring.

I was wondering if I turned them over if I could turn them into clip together terrain boards.  Being thin I might be able to store them on shelf brackets (without getting too much hassle from wifey

Has anyone tired this?

Thanks

My two cents here.  I would not use them as clip together terrain.  I just would not trust the clips whether plastic or mdf.  I would use them to make shelving in the shed/garage/basement/closet so I could store more terrain.

What are the dimensions and thickness of the boards?

I think they will move uncontrolled and won't fit After a while

Painting and/or flocking/sanding might cause a lot of warping.
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

I did something similar, but am not clipping them, and they're probably not the same beastie as these are uite thick - around 6mm - and do not seem to intend to warp.
I have a thread somewhere, but can't find it, and I can't remember the name; and it's from months back. Will take pics if I get a minute from work (and LPL9!).

No, I tell alie, found it:

The first pic shows the boards.

Seems like a pretty good idea to me.  However, I wouldn't expect them to stay put with clips. Instead, just build them (paint the bottoms to help with warpage) and layout some of the cheap rubbery non-skid material (used to keep rugs from moving around on your table before putting the boards on.

Thanks - some things I had not thought of here

One thing I think I caused confusion over is the clipping - They are cut so that they lock together but the quality when I put them on the flooring leaves a lot to be desired so this may quickly disintegrate.

They are approx. 1.3m long and 6mm thick (B&Q cheapo's)

Still don't know if I will attempt it or not so more thoughts really welcome
