Burgundian 15s Army *UTRECHT COMPLETED*
« on: June 14, 2015, 06:56:26 PM »
Hi everyone!

It has been a while since i bought this lead, but i finally decided to put some paint on it for an IMPETUS army!
The army is meant to be a burgundian band, with heavy cavalry and pikes mainly, supported with a few archers, billmen, spearmen and a couple of cannons as well.

Here's the first shot of the cavalry, just assembled so far!

I've got over 100 pikemen to paint, that's the first batch of 15 posing for the photo! They will be split in 6 Impetus pike squares, each consisting of two 8 x 4 cm bases. Each of the three squares will have a different set of colours, coming from a different town of the Lowlands.

The rest of the army, however, will be more into the blue-white-redcross scheme of the burgundian ordinance troops.

Hopefully, that's just the beginning. Please comment and push me into more painting, although i'm leaving the rest of my projects aside i'm really enjoying that painting phase so far!

Cheers,
Jack

Thanks!! I've now painted the whole unit (29 pikemen on two 8 x 4 bases), and i was thinking about the heraldry.

Inspired by the (*no spoilers*) season finale, i thought that it might be nice to convert them into a Game of Throne faction, keeping the burgundian Impetus army for the composition.

Since it's a late medieval army, i thought that something from the westerners Lannisters should be good, where the lowland pikemen are now unit sents from allied families.
Considering the white-red scheme of this unit, i'd go for the House Yarwyck levy pikemen, sent to aid the Lannister Army against their enemies:

Do you think it is a long shot?

Cheers
Jack

EDIT: the problem with GoT heraldry is that most of the coat d'arms and colours are simly awful.
Among the westerner houses, that's what i've found of acceptable:

House Sarsfield

House Prester

House Foote

House Broom

House Myatt

House Kenning

Lovely minis. Did you ever say who the manufacturer is?

Never watched or read Game of Thrones so I can't comment on the houses themselves, but House Kenning obviously has the nicest heraldry  8)

Is all this heraldry of the minor houses actually described by Martin in GoT? I know some are in passing, but I wonder how much of it is just made up by fans and plonked onto sites like a wiki of ice and fire... In which case, you may just as well make up your own?

They are Old glory 15s and Rank and File (sold by OG as well). i've got a hundred-ish of those pikes, plus a few other troop types! ^^

From what i gathered, RRM described them without doing any draw, so i might have a bit of freedom while remaining canon.
However, after a long mumbling, i decided I'll stick with the burgundian Netherland!
That's - kinda - definitive. :)
