A great resource I use are the paintings of Robert Griffing. He has several books out, but there are multiple online sources of his work. Here is one site:

Here is another:

Good luck!

I would suggest this book - contains everything you would ever want to know!
"Encyclopedia of American Indian Costume" by Josephine Paterek.

I'll second Sepoy 1857's suggestion, a very useful book.

A great resource I use are the paintings of Robert Griffing.

A while back I posted many of Griffing's works, scanned from the books Mike mentions, here:

Hope they are of some help.  :D

That's what they're there for. :D

I have more images from other artists, although not as big, that I plan on posting to flickr soon. I also plan on visiting Lord Nelson's Gallery in Gettysburg in July. Mike gave a link to their website in his comments above. They have works by not just Griffing, but also John Buxton, David Wright, Pamela Patrick White, Doug Hall, and Todd Price, all who do Eastern American frontier art. So I hope to add to my flickr stuff. My family got me a print of Buxton's "Roger's Rangers Toward Ticonderoga" from Lord Nelson's for Christmas. Very nice!  :-*
