Wargames Illustrated's IHMN Day - 27th June 2015
« on: June 19, 2015, 03:22:49 PM »
So, are any of you gentlemen attending this event? If so, what are you bringing?

Charles and I shall be there, acting as roving reporters/referees and bouncers. I understand that there shall also be a Q&A at some point in the day, and we shall be displaying Daisho and the IHMN boardgame.
My sincerest contrafibularities

There's a boardgame?!?

There is indeed, and a very fine game it is too.

It was developed by our good friend Mark Byng, a boardgame fanatic.

The games was offered to Osprey last year but they chose not to pick it up for their new boardgames division. if you know of anyone who makes boardgames who wants to have a look at it please let us know.

Could I borrow a copy of the board game to play with family, then I could look into getting it produced.

Can't make the IHMN day - there's not a steam packet fast enough to traverse the Ocean Seas.   :(

The idea of the IHMN boardgame is fascinating, and it is clearly designed by someone of discerning taste - as it appears to include the glittering Victorian metropolis of Perth (apparently at the expense of some other Australian cities!)  ;)

Huzzah!

Apologies for not replying sooner, changes at work have swamped my leisure time so this is my first visit in weeks.
Happy to loan a copy as I'd love to share this game with a wider audience, the playtest feedback is good and the setup permutations ensure each game is different.

There are 3 prototypes in existence, v14 of the rules I think, if I'd had any leisure time in the last 6 months there would be one final rework to incorporate some suggestions made by Osprey's game developer, they also felt the game had too many components so I was going to look at reducing the deck size.
Interestingly Osprey staff were borrowing the game to take home and play / replay so it seems the commercial aspects trumped playability .... thus it ever was  :'(
If you'd like to try out a v14 prototype let me know how I can arrange delivery as Cheshire is a long way from Portsmouth.

Regards
Mark

Graham

Quite discerning taste, although I am Craig's long time friend so clearly not impeccable  ;D
I researched the populations of the cities on the fringe of empire (sorry) circa 1895 to make sure the game map didn't just reflect modern day demographics, Perth was a clear winner, whereas Darwin admitted to only a few hundred souls. the location cards for the game use photos from the period - here's Perth Town Hall .
