Battle of Mittelbrau Gap 175?
« on: June 21, 2015, 11:58:53 AM »
Fictional 7YW engagement between an Austrian/French/Reichsarmee army vs a much smaller Prussian Corps.  The allies have to take the road running north in 12 moves or less. These pics are the position at the end of move three.

All figures Minden, house rules (very Beta at this stage), new scratch built woods and the marvellous snooker cloth, inspired and taught by Olicana (thank you! 16 spray cans and counting...), as were the shaped foam hills under the cloth

Hope you like it

Reichsarmee and French infantry advance through the village

Scots, Irish and Royal Roussillon on the allied left flank

Six Austrian cavalry units attempting to outflank the Prussian left.  The Prussians only have three heavies to hold them, but have the advantage of the hill

Austrian and French lights, supported by two battalions of Grenadiers head for the wooded heights, defended by a single Jaeger battalion and some dismounted hussars
"...and as always, we are dealing with strange forces far beyond our comprehension...."

All limitations are self imposed.  Work hard and dream big.

That looks incredibly good - I love the ground sheet snooker table - is that just a sheet/piece of green felt that has been spray painted?

Always maintained that cloth is the way to go - easy storage, and contours look real... As opposed to some sort of battle boards that are a pain to make, take up loads of room, constantly need repair work, provide little flexibility as every battle field you play on starts to feel the same, are dependent on more specific table dimensions, and most annoying of all leave those eye sore lines and gaps between the boards, etc...

Your fabric option here is one of the better ones I have seen...

Hi Golgotha

Thanks for your kind words

It's a proper snooker cloth. Not cheap by any means, but has the right weight and importantly quality of weave to make it sit properly on the contours. I've tried loads of cheaper options but this is the one that works.

'Olicana' who posts on these pages has a wonderful blog site that talks you through the stages. I am so glad I bit the bullet and paid up for a proper snooker cloth

Thanks

Steve

Excellent looking battle.
I too use ground cloth, with hills under it.
For years I have used Geo-Hex off and on.
Now I have turned more to the way you have done.
Love your figures, well done.

I was only on Portland for a day, sadly. Next time!
