Desperately Seeking Julie
« on: June 27, 2015, 12:35:30 PM »
Well, what I'm really seeking is some historical data. I was well out of the miniatures hobby between about 1993 and 2011, so the demise of many of the old companies happened without me watching.

However, I'm quite a fan of Julie Guthrie's early work for Ral Partha and Grenadier, and have been collecting these old beauties over the last few years. While some were kept in production by various successor companies (well, at least until Center Stage bought the moulds and mostly sat on them for two years until CS itself went bump), others disappeared apparently without trace.

So, I hope you lovely LAFfers can help me in my quest.

Firstly, Grenadier. The Julie Guthrie blister packs, with the 700- serial numbers, don't seem to have survived the demise of Grenadier, unlike the singles from the 800 and 8100 ranges. Is that correct?

Secondly, Ral Partha. The "All Things Dark and Dangerous" line, wholly sculpted by Julie, appears to have been discontinued in 1997 when FASA bought the company (according to Lost Minis Wiki). Partha's successors don't seem to have a single figure from this range. Did FASA destroy the moulds and masters, or are they languishing somewhere, awaiting time or a Kickstarter to breathe new life into them?

Any info would be hugely useful.

Sorry I can't help you with the missing Oldies, but if you are a Julie Guthrie Fan, she is a sculptor for Reaper & has been since the started up. Her earliest sculpts with them are still available.

Not sure about this, but doesn't Mirliton stock a lot of the old Grenadier models? Perhaps hers are there as well.

Mirliton has released some of her 700 series for example 712
Giant Wererats are now Ratscum Champion 1 & 2. Not many but a few of them are there.

Iron Wind Metals has quite a few of her's from the All Things Dark and Dangerous Line, just need to dig around.
For example Lizardmen and Gnolls on this page are from the line http://ironwindmetals.com/store/index.php?cPath=265_301
