GNW Östgöta Infanteriregemente
« on: June 25, 2015, 07:51:53 AM »
For our club project on the Great Northern War (1700–1721), I have painted up a unit of Swedish infantry – the Östgöta Infanteriregemente (the Östergötland Infantry Regiment). The regiment took part in several battles in the war, most notably Holowczyn in 1708 and the disastrous Poltava in 1709. It was perhaps not the most glorious or outstanding regiment in the Swedish army, but as Östergötland is the province where I was born and grew up, I thought it would be fun to have a personal connection (however small) to the unit I choose.

The miniatures and flags are from the excellent Warefare Miniatures GNW range. Very nice indeed!

You can find some more pictures, together with some notes on the Caroleans, on my blog:

Beautifully done. Captures the insane aggression of the Swedish army perfectly.  Well done

All limitations are self imposed.  Work hard and dream big.

Simply love these figures!
I've bought a few regiments' worth of Warfare Miniatures Swedes but haven't been able to start painting them yet since other projects keep interfering.

Your paint job on these is superb! The blue, which I imagined to be much darker, is so vivid, especially combined with the yellow and buff, and I'll try to emulate it.

And I agree about the details on these figures. Once primed it really shows up. The figures are anatomically correct and the faces full of expression. Smaller items  like belts, pouches and muskets are exquisitely detailed. All a bit of a challenge to paint but absolutely worth it.
And, most importantly IMHO, it's a very complete range already and when finished will no doubt be THE ultimate GNW range.

Very nice work and a coherent looking unit.

I am glad people are enjoying the sculpts; I hope they are not hard to paint. Though I wouldn't describe the figures are anatomically correct exactly (the heads are still a bit big) I have tried to make the proportions more realistic, but still just about compatible with existing ranges. I take my lead in proportions from the Perries who are my favourite sculptors.

In development are Swedish and Russian horse, and the first few packs of Russian foot are nearly done. We are also looking at doing Danes and Saxons once the two main powers are complete, but they are a way off yet.

Thanks of the clarification! I wouldn't say they are hard to paint, but their fine details require some careful painting – taking your time really pays off here in my opinion.
