Flintstone buildings for my 28mm cavemen
« on: July 11, 2015, 04:53:37 AM »
A couple weeks ago I ordered the four Neanderthal packs from Acheson Creations.  I really didn’t have a firm plan for using them, but I liked them, and I’ve been buying toy dinosaurs at the swap meet for years.  Shortly after ordering my cavemen, I came upon four Happy Meal Flintstone buildings at the swap meet.  As you would expect they are a little crazy but at the price of 50 cents each they looked like they had some potential so I decided to buy them and remodel them for use with my cavemen and dinosaurs.  I’ve attached some pictures of the Flintstone Happy Meal buildings in their original “Happy Meal” condition and the remodeled versions I have done.  I don’t have all five different Happy Meal versions in my collection (so far).  The four I have are the yellow one, two of the light grey ones, and one of the peach color ones with the bones standing upright on either side of the door.  I added quite a lot of Milliput to my versions and then gave them a new paint job.  It was a fun project… those buildings, the Neanderthals, and the dinosaurs may someday receive a visit from Dr. Who.  “Who” knows…

Very cool. I only have four of the peach color style. Didn't realize there were others.

Will now be on the lookout for the other three.

Thanks to all for the kind words and for taking the time to write.  When I found these at the swap meet I really wasn't all that sure about how well they would lend themselves to repurposing, but when I got them done I was so pleased that I thought they were worth sharing in case someone else might find them a useful option for their 'caveman" experience.  Richard

I have a bunch of them too. I have been planning to use them for an orc or goblin village. Guess I'll have to actually do something with them now. BTW I also have one of the pink ones. My 18 month old little boy discovered the little cars & claimed them. So it will be quite a while before I do any thing with the cars.

Can I ask what you are using as a gaming mat in these shots? It kind of looks like a flat carpet?

HerbyF and Lawful Evil, thank you both for writing.  I'd like to pick up a couple more of the Flintstone buildings.  I haven't found the blue one yet and I'd like to do another of the peach, but I'll take what I find at the swap meet... swap meet rules.  I modified three of the cars last week.  The figures are not easy to remove but they do come out with a little work and the cars actually paint up pretty well.  I may never use them, but I'm glad I have them.  The ground cover you see in the pictures is very cheap indoor-outdoor carpet that I purchased about 30 years ago to use on my game/layout tables.  At the time I bought enough of the green to cover two 5 ft x 7 ft tables.  I also bought the same carpet in tan for use in desert layouts... again enough for both tables.  I really recommend that you check out places that sell cheap carpet closeouts.  This stuff has been out of production for years but it has served me well for decades and because I got it on closeout and because it was terrible as carpet, I got it cheap.  It's probably most easily seen in my African Adventure Gallery at www.warin15mm/28MM-African-Adventure-Gallery.html

Thanks for the carpet tip, looks like my local hardware might have something similar for a fraction of the price of a wargaming mat.

Lawful Evil, it has been many years since I bought mine and I am sure it is long out of production, but now that you mention it, I believe I got my game table carpets at a hardware store not a carpet store.  Good luck.  Richard

Cherno, thank you.  Since posting these Flintstone makeovers I have been lucky to find a half dozen more of the buildings at my local swap meet.  Fortunately, they're still selling for about 50 cents each so I bought all the ones I found, but I haven't gotten around to doing the remake work on them yet.  Even at 50 cents each I probably don't need to buy anymore.  Richard
