Indeed. Looks good from what i saw. And it reminds me of that great classic 'Jeremiah Johnson'. And why not now but in december? Well, that this not the sort of movie to put out at this time of the year when everybody want to sit in the sun, drink wine and go on holiday. No, this is a typical movie for that time of the year when everybody wants to fly to the sun, drink wine and celebrate life. You see?-)

I live in vegas, summer is are winter where any one with sense runs to the A/C and stays inside. That being said I totally understand what you are saying. I want the snow to remind me of why I like living here in the summer and not some place cooler.

The movie is based on an incident which occurred in present-day northern South Dakota, south of the town of Lemmon, along the Grand River, which is now a reservoir, as you can see from the photos of the old monument. The Bridger mentioned in the monument is then-19-year-old Jim Bridger, who unlike Glass, lived to a ripe old age. Ashley's brigade also included big names like Jedidiah Smith, William Sublette, and James Beckworth. The expedition had repeated trouble with the Arikara (Glass may have been injured in an earlier fight with them), and accounts suggest that Bridger and John Fitzgerald claimed that, after waiting a few days for him to die, they left Glass out of fear of approaching Arikara. Should be interesting to see how the movie portrays all this.

After you visit the Hugh Glass memorials, take a mere ten-hour drive SW from Lemmon and stop in Pinedale Wyoming to visit the Museum of the Mountain Man. Time your visit for the second week in July and attend the Green River Rendezvous Pageant (I attended in 1973 and still have the Green River knife I bought there). Head a few miles over to Daniel and visit that most popular Rendezvous site along the Green River, with the Wind River mountains looming to the east, which is now a National Historic Landmark. Pinedale and Daniel are located in Sublette County, named after William Sublette, above-mentioned member of the Ashley brigade, who bought Ashley's fur business in 1826 along with Jed Smith and David Jackson.

Damn, so much history in these here parts!

Cheers for the photos. Yeah, I first heard about this when reading about Bridger years ago. Never thought it would be turned into a film made by Oscar winners. Now...some Foundry Mountain Men and...no...must not get into another period...but...

Apparently it took longer to film than most movies usually do because the director only wanted natural lighting (or some artsy nonsense like that). All that aside, it looks like a fine exercise in the manly arts....Is it just me or is Leo starting to look like Orson Welles?
