Harry does Frostgrave
« on: July 19, 2015, 10:41:32 PM »
So I am pretty excited about this little game.
I thought I would start a thread to show folks what I get up to.

This is the table I have pulled together ... some bits I had ... some new bits.
It is a 4ft square table. All the pieces are 'flats' so I can move this all around however I like for each game.
The raised 'snow drifts' are all difficult terrain and the paths in between are easy going.
Seems to give the maze like quality described.

Hope you like it ...

This is pretty epic, Harry! Love the scenic backdrop pieces. A frozen labyrinth.

Nicely done! Ordinarily, I would probably be critical of the monochrome painting, but in this context it works quite well - I dare say better than if you splattered colors around.

I recognize most of the pieces, but not the... well, it looks like a dwarf-head-gazebo-bunker. What is that? Scratchbuilt? Very interesting piece!

That's a great looking table, and anice selection of terrain pieces!  Posts like this are making it increasingly difficult to resist jumping aboard the next train to Frostgrave...  Maybe 15mm?

The thing with the monochrome ... not normally something I would have done ..... it does make the Frostgrave seem appropriately sinister but the real result is ... the minis ... they shine like jewels against this backdrop.

I found a couple of images on the internet that really did it for me .... I was going for this ....

As someone has rightly pointed out the dwarf head is a Gormiti toy ... picked it up on ebay for a couple of pounds. Saw its potential straight away.

I was aiming for a 'wizards quarter' of the city where there were the ruins of one wizards tower after another.... from a time when wizards from different schools had lived and studied together in the great city and a human necromancer was neighbour to the elven elemenatlist and the Dwarf enchanter such was the cosmopolitan culture of the city at its height,

Only had one test game on this table so far.
Battle reports will follow.

The two 'backdrop pieces .... which also came into the game with treasure tokens placed on them ... were scratch built using white polystyrene a bread knife and a bucket load of polyfilla. :D

The little bits were juts a lump of white polystyrene stuck to a pre cut kidney shape of 3mm MDF sanded to shape and the painted with a mix of white paint sand and PVA ..... the sprinkled with some snow glitter for that magical touch. :D

Couple of bigger hills for a bit of height ... same thing just thicker ploystrene and carved a bit of cliff into one side.

The tree's were ebayed for China and were stupid cheap.

Yes ndeed. ... and the enchanter in the Dwarf Enchanters tower, The elementalist in the destroyed tower top left (it has the various magic symbols on the floor, The sigilist in the great library set inside the mountain backdrop, The summoner in the tower with the summoning circle in the middle, The Witch in a Cave in near the Waterfall ... leaving the Soothsayer and illusionist to fight over the square tower and the destroyed one in bits. I am planning on building an adventurers campsite with tents for the Thaumaturge ... he likes to camp. :D
