The Lashwood Expedition
« on: July 26, 2015, 12:03:15 AM »
Last weekend I ran a game of FiveCore for the Jackson Gamers, set in a lost temple in the Peruvian jungle of the 1930s.

The game went quite well, and the rules were an excellent fit.  The battle report can be found at http://www.jacksongamers.net/2015/07/the-lashwood-expedition/

I absolutely love the look of your table--it just strikes all the right notes. I hadn't heard of the Fivecore rules before. It sounds like they are fun--if you get the chance it would be great to hear your overall impression of them. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks Arundel. A club member and I built the pyramid from Hirst Arts blocks with styrofoam sheet as filler. He used a bunch of leftover blocks to make the ruin pieces. I blatantly stole the tall tree design from a post here. I need to repaint them some time, they are too brown and need to be much darker.

As for FiveCore, I enjoyed it a lot. It is designed for five figures on each side, though it's easy to play with more if you want. The mechanics are simple, which makes it good for con and group games where you have to teach everyone how to play. Using cover and terrain is important; you can't game the rules much, so you have to game the table instead.

It assumes that "a soldier is a soldier" and there isn't much difference between your basic infantryman on any side of a conflict. If you prefer lots of detailed weapon stats, this isn't the game for you.

Huh.  That 'tall tree' design I had missed if it was on this forum prior - brilliant way to do it, honestly.

I've seen it a couple of times. It IS a good idea.

Those tall trees do look great. Thank you for the information on Fivecore--I've learned about a new game!
