Ave from the Australia's Bush Capital
« on: July 28, 2015, 11:36:27 AM »
Hello all,

I have just joined after hearing about this forum on boardgamegeek.com.

I am a middle aged gamer with a pretty wide range of interests. Current things on the go include:

* 15mm Franco Prussians for Black Powder
* 28mm Austrians for Blucher
* 28mm Austrians for Might and Reason/Maurice
* 28mm Back of Beyond odds and ends for use someday...
* 28mm Judge Dredd miniatures.

I don't get to game as much as I'd like as my commitment to my family (two boys aged five and almost three) really cuts into my gaming time.

On the upside they both like painting and playing games, Little Fish the Elder is a big fan of Wings of War/Wings of Glory.

Anyway, I look forward to having a bit of a look about the place and seeing what it's all about.

Cheers,

MF4

Hello and Welcome,

It's a cracker of a place to chat about current happenings in the gaming field, and inspirational for getting your painting improved, and improving your terrain making.

I really enjoy all the pretty pictures :D

Where are you based?

Cheers
Matt

Thank you.

I'm based in Canberra, but grew up in Sydney and did a fair bit of miniatures gaming there at different times.

Even just a cursory look around has inspired me with several things I have on the workbench.

Great, I'm based in Sydney. I should be at MOAB this year.

I haven't gotten down to a Canberra gaming con yet, is there one that's the best? CanCon?

Back of Beyond / pulp is quite popular here as I'm sure you can see. And there is a bit of Judge Dread on too. There is certainly a prefrence for skirmish games, and well made terrain/minis. You should fit in fine. ;)

Cheers
Matt.

I used to go to MOAB regularly and even put on a participation game (Eastern Front 20mm using Rapid Fire) some many years ago.

Cancon, held over the Australia Day long weekend, is the big event down this way. It's always a difficult decision where to spend my time, as my kids like boardgames I volunteered in the boardgames library this year but in the past I used to 'compete' in DBA but since it was moved to a two-day competition I gave it away as fun that DBA is two straight days is just a bit much. With family and cricket commitments I just can't commit to competitions longer than one day.

Cancon is also good for shopping with plenty of retailers on hand and there is a pretty well-subscribed bring-and-buy stall too.

We also have Wintercon, which is a much smaller event, which was held a couple of weekends ago. There was a few demo games of this and that, a much-reduced boardgames library and various competitions alongside a reasonable retailer presence.

Welcome to LAF Muzfish4.

May you have a long and merry stay with us.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Furt, Vladimir and I are looking at putting a game on MOAB this year - on the sunday, if you're interested in popping by. ;)

More info over on the Aus/NZ board - ask an admin ;)

Cheers

I'd love to get along but sadly Mrs Fish has other plans for the holiday weekend.  :'(
