Egyptian Machimoi Figures in 28mm
« on: July 30, 2015, 06:43:45 PM »
I'm looking for figures of or repurposable into Machimoi in 28mm. Should have "borrowed" Assyrian shields but not absolutely nessecary. I've only been able to find them, and rarely, in 15mm a scale I don't have much use for.

I take it that the term machimoi didn't imply any kind of special equipment. So most New Kingdom era ranges might be useful, right?

First off there's the well-known stuff by the Perry brothers at Wargames Foundry.

Black Tree Design have quite an extensive and nice looking range of New Kingdom Egyptians. (And yes, I explicitly recommend BTD for their excellent service.)

1st Corps had previewed a few Ptolemaic phalangites here, which are part of their Successor range. Perhaps worth a look for conversions.

A few tasters that sprang to mind. Nothing that comes with Assyrian shields per se, however.

Thanks for your suggestions. First Corp's figures look closest to what I was thinking of but maybe a little too dapper. I think I'm going to repurpose some Third Interregnum Spearman into pike with big Assyrian shields and quilted headgear. I'm divided about armor, or of they should even have any and be, aside from a discrete loincloth, naked.

Try Sgt Major Miniatures (ex Vendel) - large 28mm.   Egyptians in their Achaemenid Persian range.   Marines with quilted armour/large shield, armoured archers and unarmoured marines/large shield.   Would make useful machimoi or even Saitic Egyptians.   Need a bit of cleaning up due to mould lines and flash.

Eureka make (smaller) 28mm Egyptian marines figures - armoured/large shield:

Suggest you check with Eureka - I have other Eureka figures that have weapons moulded with separate hands - fiddily to attach.

Gripping Beast has machimoi pikemen and command in their Polemarch range.
