Republican Romans
« on: August 03, 2015, 05:10:28 PM »
My Republican Roman Army is now complete and I have posted lots of photos on my blog. It is entirely made up of 28mm metal figures from Aventine, I realise there are lots of exciting new plastics around but I am a bit of a dinosaur and still prefer the look and feel of metals.

I was going to base them all for Impetus but I am using Bigredbats "To the strongest rules" on a 150mm grid system. whilst 120mm bases work perfectly on my grid,  the maniples are "small units" in these rules, so I decided to go with 8 figures on an 80x50 mdf base for each maniple. This will give me the ability to deploy them in the checkerboard (two small units per box) fashion and I am keen to see how they match up to a pike army in the near future.

There are lots more photos on my blog:

Nicely presented. I particularly like the sword marks on the shields.   8)

For my army, I've gone for an eight mini maniple too, with command.

Stuart.
Barrowclough; "Have you got any valuables here, Fletch?
Fletcher; "Only what I always keep in my pyjamas"
Blanco; "He could have been after your lemon barley water; "
Fletcher; "What - in my pyjamas? Funny shaped bottle"

I can totally sympathise with that. Aventine figures are pure joy, almost no prep work required – very much unlike my experiences with plastic figs. ::)
Besides, a great army you've assembled there. Top paintjobs on an impressive amount of figures, very well done!
