Painting question Regarding Teutonic knights

Hi All
I really need some advice at the moment with regard to the Teutonic knights
I have seem some great posts on the forum with lovely painted minis which as inspired me to attempt to paint
a crusader force.
question I have is what colour do I paint the great helms on the knights? I have seen models painted steel/white and red....Can I paint the helms white?

I've always painted mine in plain steel.

I painted mine white with black detailing around the eye slits etc. Personal preference really.

Thanks guys...I'll do a compromise a mixture of steel and white helms.
It's very confusing trying to get all the reference material and choosing the right schemes.
I was watching a black and white film on you tube called battle on ice of Teutonic Knights fighting I think Russians but hard to tell if steel or white painted helms in the film.

If you want to add more variety, look up the Sword Brothers of Livonia. They were kind of a franchise affiliated with the Teutonic Knights but with red instead of black and red crosses above swords instead of a black cross for their heraldry.
