I'm missing something in the rules , help ?
« on: October 18, 2015, 01:02:15 AM »
Hi All

I've read the rules only one  time and very quickly it was as my tablet was dying  . The game  seems very easy to pick up and play with whatever of my minnies I have at hand but I cant see something in the rules or I have glossed over it somehow .
How do the creatures activate ? which way do they move  and what determines which creatures come out ?  ,,, from first glance it appears that I'm expected to have all of those nasties on the chart and on a roll of a dice determines which beastie pops out. Is there a different chart available with less choices , or maybe a blank one can be filled out by the player according to what is in their collection ?

Any help appreciated  , cheers Tom

Don't have the book in front of me, but basically wandering monsters move towards and attack the nearest model controlled by a player.

For creatures tied to a specific scenario, the scenario description explains which monsters appear where and when.

For general 'wandering monsters' see the 1st page of the creatures chapter. It is an optional rule and it does encourage the players to change the tables depending on the minis they have available (though I would suggest retaining roughly the same proportion of undead/animals/demons in your lists to as not to favour one set of spells over another).

In short, when each treasure is picked up for the 1st time by a figure there is a 1 in 4 chance of a random monster(s) appearing immediately at the midway point of a random table edge. They then act as per the creature rules.

I would second this.
I wouldn't get hung up on the monster types either - "counts as" works for Soldiers, so there's no reason it shouldn't work on monster types as well, to match your collection.

If not in combat, creatures move towards the nearest warband member within 10" if another closer target appears they will move towards that. If no warband member is visible they move in a random direction using a spinner or arrow dice.

The rules for creature actions are on p45-47 of the rulebook.

As far as the table goes, if I don't have the relevant creature available when I need one I just take the next higher entry on the table.
