starting out in frostgrave

Hi all,

Stumbled upon frostgrave while looking at the "outside the box" articles on bols.  Loved the old school look of the models and decided to check out the nickstarter.  The game looked good but I decided to pass as have alot of unpainted, unbuilt etc minis.  Anyways a few weeks passed and had another look and saw the warbands folks were building, and then saw Harry's amazing terrain and got really intrigued and started remembering all the fun mordheim was back in the day.  So started looking around and found the rule book on amazon for 10.49...stuck in a flubit request and got it for 8.91 delivered had a read and now I'm hooked!! I've decided to try and keep costs down so I've hunted round and ordered a number of reaper bones and Perry plastics to build my warband.  I've also ordered white felt, snow covered model trees etc to start on terrain.

So my intention is to keep this thread updated with progress as stuff starts getting delivered and I get some games in.

Delighted in anything i have done has given you any inspiration/motivation.
I was lucky enough to have some nice bits of terrian about but I honestly think you can reproduce the look of my table for very little money. Some scrap polystyrene, some PVA and some sand and you are in business.

Thanks harry...i think your pics will be pulling alot of folks in.  I've made a start with some blue styrofoam and textured render paint for some icy glacial snow drifts ( difficult / impassable terrain)....pics to follow

The same material makes great ruined buildings as well.

Did you find a good source of trees ... they vary a bit in quality .... Got my trees here:

I think for buildings and ruins i will vet some of the amera plastic mouldings terrain...those look similar to the trees I bought but got 10 slightly less snowy ones for 3.88 again ebay via china

Those are nice ... and some nice variation in sizes ... all mine are identical.

Made a start on some terrain. Bought some blue Styrofoam while ago so used a hot wire cutter to cut some shapes, carve rough sides into them and some cracks. I then painted them with some bright white textured masonry paint...et voila quick and easy mini glacial snow drifts:

Sprayed with pound land grey primer:


Stippled on some textured masonry paint:


And finished off with a few progressively lighter drybrushes:


Basically free and took less than 20 mins

Nice package of reaper bones and Perry plastics arrived today so ill do some late night assembly and hopefully get some pics up tomorrow.  Hopefully getting hold of another aquarium ornament too

Been busy overnight and this morning.  Got my warband built, based and primed ( pound land primer works perfect on reaper bones with none of the stickiness some have found with primers) added some ebay snow covered trees to my snow mounds. And I primed and added snow to an aquarium ornament from the range:
