Does anyone have any pics of Danish artillery? I was looking around the other day after a conversation about Prussian artillery and the guns I came up with looked like fortress guns as they were on really tall carriages. I'm assuming these weren't actually used in the field?

The war in 1864 didn't really have any battles in the field. Apart from a few cavalry skirmishes and rearguard actions. The war consisted of the siege of Dybøl.

But of course the Danish army had field guns as well. I'll see if I can dig up some pictures. They were usually painted a deep red with yellow details. As for poundage it varies a lot as there was somewhat of a gun shortage after British navy firebombed Copenhagen and stole the Danish navy in 1807. A lot of army cannons went to the navy as it had higher priority.

That would be great, thanks. Although I'd say the Danes put up a fight in more places than just Dybol and some of those rear guard action were pretty intense. Dybol was undoubtedly the important one though and you're right, skimming the reference bits I have, all uses of Danish artillery were from prepared defences, be they dug in emplacement or full fortification.

That's great thanks. The one with the seats looks like a Prussian 9lb cannon. Which North Star already make, is it one? Or is it a similar but unique Danish gun?

The Danish artillery at the time was a mess of different calibers. The calibers used by the army artillery were 6, 12, 24, 36, 84 and 168 pounds, as well as mortars of 24, 84 and 168 pounds. The cannons were all muzzle-loaders.

I imagine the larger calibers were fort defenses, but the smaller 6- and 12 pounders definitely saw field action.

The artillery also had one notable other trick up their sleeve, the 'espignol', a weird, fast-shooting rocket gun. it looked like this:

The general idea being that rockets were taken from the ammo crate on the right, put into the the three barrels, fired, and discarded in the crate to the left.

That rocket gun is great, I'll see Nick at the club tonight so I'll see if I can convince him to do one  :D

Sorry, ignore my comment about the 9pdr, it's not the gun I was thinking of. I'm assuming the gun with seats would be the 6lb version?
