My Quest for Titans (up 16.09.15, p. 2)
« on: August 24, 2015, 03:00:52 PM »
More than five years ago (oh dear!) I started collecting cast and creatures inspired by Greek mythology. It is a long-lasting love of mine, recently reignited by the rise of fantasy skirmish games like "Frostgrave". However, not to jump onto the bandwagon I rather try to play safe: So I've begun to cobble together terrain pieces as required by said rulesets, but which might be useful in any 28mm game set in a vaguely Mediterranean theatre.

Given my strong distaste for zombies (sorry, Zombicide and Walking Dead fans) I also painted two "earthborns", that will take this role. Their Mycenaean attire is meant to show their age in comparison to the heroes in classical Greek outfit.

There are more to come, still experiment with colours and decay. However, since my Argonauts are relatively clean and shiny, I did neither aim for a gritty appearance here. Also, I will add more terrain pieces and models to this thread soon, I hope.
For completeness' sake, find the accompanying blog post here.

PS: Too bad that "Titansgrave" is already trademarked – WHEATOOON! >:(

Bloody amazing, Tilman! Love the idea, love the creative implementation of Frostgrave, love the terrain and the paintwork on the figures is absolutely smashing. This strong color scheme on these earthbornes is a hit! Please, please, keep them coming :)

In my loft  have a couple of metal 54mm Greek hoplites painted as statues, any use?

Boom. What a Great project. The terrain is so effective, and the Earthbornes look really scary.

Looks great! The painting is beautiful and that tunic with the freehand diamonds is really nicely done. Looks like a game with those will be loads of fun!

Also it's nice to know I'm not the only one with a distaste for  zombies lol. Fed up of them!

Cheers for your kind comments, guys, much appreciated. :)

Alex & Jan, hope it might entice you to do Ancients again. You're more than welcome for a game or two chez moi. Heavens, I've even dared to scratch-build terrain, things are desperate! ;)

bigredbat, thanks for the offer, mate. I'll keep it in mind, but other bits and pieces are to be finished first.

ShinRa, all credits for the pattern have to go to the Perry boys, since it's sculpted, no free-hands involved. However, I'm flattered!

Beatiful paintwork on those Earthborn, especially the quilted tunic.
 :-* :-*

I too have been squirrelling away some mythic Greek stuff for later use, so I shall be watching this thread with much interest.

Mad Doc,
Looks like you are making a great start.  I grew up on "Sword and Sandal" movies, and have always wanted to do some skirmish gaming based on the Greek Myths.  I am in the early planning stages, building some terrain that will see double duty with my 1930s pulp games.  No figures yet, except for a Talos whom I made by painting a 54mm plastic Greek bronze and making a statue base for him.

Great stuff! Between this and the Glorantha mod for Frostgrave on the fantasy board, I feel my resolve weakening...
Plus its always nice to see Trojans painted, dead or not! ;)

I do have some Myceneans on my workbench, I always wanted to re-do our Jason project with early Myceneans. But I have to finish some work for the Prof first...
