Republican Roman Equites – Alternative horses?
« on: August 27, 2015, 11:29:52 AM »
I recently invested in some Wargames Factory Celt cavalry since they were a. Very Cheap and b. Came with 24 riders (but only 12 horses).  I intend to convert the armoured bodies to Republican Roman Equites but I need some suitable horses.  I would prefer plastic but would not rule out metal.

Has anyone done something similar and what are my options?

In metal Aventine make some very nice Roman horses.

In plastic, it might be worth buying second-hand Riders of Rohan models on eBay if you can get them at the right price.  These are lovely plastic horses; just cut off the riders and reuse.  Some have head armour, but then Roman horses sometimes wore this.  I have a unit of Romans riding these.  :-)
