Old metal GW Griffon painted.
« on: August 30, 2015, 09:05:02 PM »
Well, wot it says on the tin really...
I painted an old GW Griffon, it's the one Karl Franz used to sit on, back in his Liberace, feathery, period. (Really, half the mass of the Karl Frans figure is plumage!) Karl doesn't get to ride this one, maybe I'll find him a horse later. Anyway, on to the pretties:

And finally some size comparisons:

(For size indication, the knight is on a 50mm base, the Griffon on a 60mm one)

(Again, for indication, the knight is on a 30mm base, the Griffon, unusprisingly, still on the 60mm one...)

A lovely old model, metal, so a nice heft to it. I wish GW still made beauties such as this. Quite fond of how she turned out, maybe at some point I'll build a nest for her to defend, and if I can find them in a similar style, some baby Griffons as well?

The Old Beasty looks SO MUCH better in your version than those done for the White Dwarf...BEAUTIFULLY painted & based; TERRIFIC range of colors. VERY WELL DONE!

It looks great, and so does the knight jousting against it.

Thank you guys!  :)
Glad you like him, and his colours. In painting it I really came to respect how nice and intricate this sculpt is, such a shame the attention is so often diverted away from it by the armoured feather duster that usually sits on his neck. (Not to mention the odd tiger butt GW gave him in the studio paintjob....)
It's a very painter-friendly model, modern sculpts could really learn from that.

Splendid, it really shows what that old model could do.
Nice knights, too.  8) 8) 8)

Wow! This is really great work and I love the idea of making a nest for the griffon to defend. Classic.
