7th Voyage: Once and Future?
« on: September 19, 2015, 01:01:29 AM »
Is it fun? I'm still trying to find a set of rules that gives me the Arthurian game I want: fairly fast play, easy to learn, and highly cinematic a la Boorman's Excalibur. I've had good fun w Song of Arthur and Merlin, but I'd like a change. Pretty high buy-in, so I was hoping for some feedback before I plunge in.
(I do like Beowulf too!  ;) )

Have you played any of the Crooked Dice products before?

If so, they're the same as the rest, with an obvious flavour toward Arthurian fantasy.

If not, 7th Voyage is a small scale skirmish game. There tends to be about 5-10 models per side (called a cast). The top few of your cast are your stars and co-stars. They have a lot of skills and abilities to make them interesting. They're can be a lot of bits and pieces to keep track of for new starts, but once you've played a couple of times the games are really fun and fast. An average game can be completed in 3 hours.

Hope that helps a wee bit!

You only need the PDFs of 7th Voyage and Once and Future - surely that's not too expensive?

Yeah, if you want a fun Arthurian game which is flexible enough to bring in pretty much any fantasy element you like then I'd definitely recommend OaF.

It even has the Charm of Making as one of its spells!

Thanks! Never played a Crooked Dice game before, and I'm not a PDF fan. Give me a pretty rulebook to drool over every time...

Thus the inspiration for this question.

Yeah, good price for the UK, but still quite hefty for the 'rest of the world.'

Apparently a mistake on the site that I questioned too! Soon to be corrected, I believe. More postage, yes, but more for the exact same book? Can't be right!
