Excellent!  :-* :-*

Really like the way you paint you're shields.

Thanks Cram  8)

The shields are (to be honest) quite swift to paint as they are done in the style that I find the easiest to paint up reasonably quickly. The Godwinson shield is bone in an earlier more 'complete' manner.

Thanks Cram- what you see is actually my 'quick' method- i've got an awful lot of shields to paint up! :)

I took some close ups this morning- some of them are at a 'funny' angle but I was using the macro and it was hard to get in to some of the nooks and crannies of the vignette!

Cheers,
Darrell.

Unlike that other guy, I like your mail. ;) Especially the gold-y trim on Harold's hauberk. Nicely done.

A few months ago I was asked by Gripping Beast to take some larger file pictures of a vignette I put together of Harold Godwinson surveying the Norman army just prior to Hastings.

It has taken me a little bit of time. Put it all down to being a scatterbrain. Finally today, I remembered and took the pictures.

The files are large, all approximately 3000 pxl wide so you will be able to click on the images and really get into the meat of the pictures, blemishes and all.

Rather then start a new thread with the new pictures I just thought I'd pop them here.

If you want to view the full sized files they can be clicked on on my blog here:
https://justaddwater-bedford.blogspot.com/2020/09/harold-godwinson-vignette-large-files.html

Or- Right click on the images in this post, Open Image in New Tab and view :)

Glorious.

Harold to bannerman: "Careful with that thing, you'll have someone's eye out!"

Lovely vignette.

Not sure if it's my browser but there seem to be a few repeated pictures in that post?  o_o

I don't think so, there's a set taken at a different angle so maybe that's it?

I counted 11 different pics - I think the first 3 or 4 are repeated, then the close-ups!

God knows why but I have just checked them by measuring from the base to the foot of Godwinson's shield and none of the images are repeats.

They are all taken from different angles; there might be some subtle variations but I assure you that all the images (at least on my screen) are separate pictures.  :D

Don’t forget that the website auto resizes massive pictures so by the time they are reduced any subtle differences will be lost

Edit: by way of example images 2 and 6 are essentially the same thing

Nice one. I think the color of the mail is spot-on. Dark-greyish with a hint of what I call a mixed "rust/purplish teint", just like you see it with re-enactors. Not the fake shiny silvery effect, that's not how it would have looked.

Thanks SI. I'll take the downsizing dynamic into account next time I post a number of pictures from different angles. To be honest, it hadn't even crossed my mind that the angle effectively reduced in such a manner. :)

Cheers Duncan, that good of you to say.  8)

I agree re: painting mail. It can sometimes look garish if overdone. I have always toned it down mail, usually after highlighting up first then applied a couple of very thin dark glazes. Glad you noticed :)

(not inclusive of my first Hinchliffe Naps a a boy which were given a very generous coat of Humbrol Gloss  lol )
