Getting the most out of my Soldier box
« on: October 03, 2015, 02:44:16 PM »
Hey guys,

Like many, I got the wonderful Soldier box to get my warband started.

However, I am a bit scared to continue assembling, because I want to make sure I get the most out of it. I am not much of a tactical player so getting the right mix of models is like impossible to me. This wouldn't be too much of a problem if I simply used the box to make one warband, but I got myself two wizards so I could play a game against someone else. Taking this into account, getting the mix right is quite difficult for me.

I understand that everyone has their preferences when it comes to which models to choose, but I am still looking forward to hearing from you guys.

I have already assembled 10 models, so I am asking quite a bit from you guys haha.

This is what I have assembled so far:
3 Thugs
3 Men-at-Arms (I like shields)
2 Infantrymen
1 Crossbowman
1 Thief

I also have a model that will be used as a Barbarian and one I am thinking about using as Treasure Hunter. Also maybe a Tracker, though I am still on the fence whether or not to use that model.

So, if you guys could help me out with continuing my assembly, it would be much appreciated. What to do with the next 10 models? I was personally thinking of adding another Crossbowman, another Thief, three more Thugs just to get the all-round options done, but I am not sure.

Thanks for your help!

I think the soldier box mostly works best to build basic grunts, rather than the 100g elite guys, so I'd recommend at least one more thug, a couple more thieves, another crossbow, some archers and an infantry.

Say
2 thug
2 thieves
1 infantry
1 crossbow
2 archer

And then two others that could be trackers or men at arms or whatever you want.

that's a fair comment.

the plastics are nice and flexible, but hard to make very 'individual'. which means that they make good 'cheap' models (war hound excluded of course ;))

Yeah, wasn't planning on going elite, keeping to level 1 and 2 so to speak, using the helmeted heads for the level 2 guys. I think your suggestions are good. I want to order... Well, every model eventually, so the higher tiers will definitely be ordered, hopefully soon! In the meantime, low-level it is.

I've made all mine up to cover the cheaper ones a few times to give me choices and more than enough to fill two warbands.

4 thieves
4 thugs
2 archers
2 crossbows
3 infantry
2 treasure hunters
2 men at arms
1 tracker

I'll also be doing a few rougher ones from the cultists box
