Early Saxons/Goths/Germanics(Update 10.01.16)
« on: October 06, 2015, 10:39:28 AM »
I've added some more Early Saxons/Germanics to my collection on some sabot Impetus bases I made. The rest of my collection has also been put onto Impetus sabot bases as well. The leader figure is on a Dux B. base until I decide where to put him. The figures are from gripping Beast 4/5th century Early Saxon range with LBM shield transfers and flag. As usual I dusted up the shields with my trusty Mig pigments.

Thanks for viewing! :)

More pics on my blog if your interested.

Well done. Is there any particular technique you use when applying the MIG powders? I have tried using them in the past but never seem to have any luck with the application - either it just slides off with minimal stick or I use the MIG bonding product and it clumps and/or looks too wet.

As we've come to expect, very nice, colourful paintjobs! :-*
Just a thought on the sabot bases: Perhaps a less regular arrangement and/or varying the number of models per base would add to the overall impression of an unkempt barbarian force.

Yes terrific Christopher!  I'd also love to know which MIG pigments you are using.

@Goliad

Thank you. I don't bother with fixer and simply brush on the pigment mix and do any touch ups later if needed. If you use the fixer you have to apply it in a misty way either flicking it from a brush from a distance to avoid large droplets or airbrush it on. When applying the pigments don't be stingy and get a good amount on your brush and rub it in. The excess goes on the base which I like as it adds more dirt effect or you can place the figure on a white sheet to collect the excess and replace it back into the bottle or mixing jar if you prefer.

@Mad Doc Morris

Thank you kindly Doc! I've tried seven figures and it just looked to few so I stuck with eight. I could have used a smaller base for the figures but then it does not look as good in skirmish gaming usage so I kept them on 25mm bases. I tried to not make the sabots to regular, but I didn't have much room to work with. As always when saboting figures compromises have to be made.

@Simon

Thank you! I used a mix of European Dust and Dry Mud.

Great work and a good use of pigments, hadn't thought of using them on figures.
