Army of Messiah Reborn

Founded by Ogwa Akabe, an ex minister of public morals and former member of the ruling Patriotic Front party. After being proclaimed mentally unsound (even by PF standards) and confined to the Republica Catholic Mission Hospital for the Insane, he dissapeared from public view for several years. He was all but forgotten until the "Insurgency of the Insane" hit the headlines on all (state controlled) newspapers. Portrayed as a humorous act of a few madmen, the reality of the events were never disclosed to the public. Leading a large group of fellow inmates Akabe, now a self proclaimed Christ reborn going under the name "The Light" and leader of his own cult, slaughtered the missionaries in an orgy of violence. Before disappearing into the jungle, the group raided a local police station, killed the officers and got their hands on a small stockpile of weapons.

Akabe soon woved to overthrow the government and proclaim the New African Jerusalem, a holy land destined to become the Garden of Eden. A low intensity insurgency started in the south of the West African Republic (WAR). The AFWAR, preoccupied with the Democratic Liberation Front in the north, are content with keeping the AMR at bay, with no major operations initiated in the southern theater. Although Akabe have managed to swell his ranks with new recruits, both religious fanatics and disgruntled locals, he is lacking foreign support and military supplies. Until recently...

Msotho is a southern mining town currently held by the Armed Forces of the West African Republic (AFWAR) together with a Final Outcomes Enterprises (FOE) security detail. As of recently, the FOE have begun their own diamond smuggling operation, cutting out some of the middle men. One of their newest customers is a Matawian major, Zabuni. Matawi, together with Cabo Corso, is one of WARs two neighbouring countries. Matawi is known as a terrorist haven and is suspected of harboring several top ranking jihadists. Sadly for FOE, this new business venture have caught the eye of the Land of the Free in the west, since a lot of west african diamonds have surfaced in the middle east, used as easiy concealed currency.

Without mandate to intervene in WAR, an unnamed US agency have deployed a black ops team in the southern jungles. Their mission is to eliminate major Zabuni. During their time in the jungle, the team have established contact with the AMR, and seeing them as useful allies, have incited the local commander to partake in the assault on Msotho in exchange for a chache of weapons and post-engagement control of the town. With the AMR as diversion, the black ops team plan to take out the objective later and dissapear into the jungle.



Warned by approaching engines, both AFWAR and FOE take upp hastily prepared defensive positions.

Manned by a skeleton crew of two, the T-55 has recently thrown a track and canīt do much being in a poor position.



The action begins with a concealed AMR RGP-gunner popping out of the bushes, aiming for the bar in the distance.



Scoring a hit, sending shrapnel over the two mercenaries hiding behind the building and setting it ablaze.

This was also a test of ver 1.2 of my ruleset "Uncivil Wars". This particular battle was played with 4 players. I will give a more detailed review of how the rules worked out shortly.

Following the initial rocket attack, a group of AMR rebels advance towards the church in the north part of the battlefield.



At the same time, an AMR technical drives south of the mine, as the second part of the two pronged assault.



From the belltower, a lone AFWAR soldier opens up against the advancing rebels.



Only managing to scare the youngest recruit and forcing him to take cover behind a rock.



The more seasoned rebels, fueled with the holy spirit and a mix of cocaine and black powder, replies with a hailstorm of bullets...



...turning both the thin churchwalls and the brave soldier into swiss cheese.



From a hidden position underneath the radio mast, an AFWAR RPG-gunner aims and fires on the technical. The target is far away and moving at top speed...



But he manages to send the crew to whatever maker they worship and a message to the rebels that they are not going to take Msotho that easy!



US black ops members (disguised in Cabo Corsean military fatigues to avoid recognition) leaves the bushes...



...engaging the surviving merc behind the RPG-stricken bar.



One merc breaks loose from the defenders and runs along the T-55 while the other two keeps the attackers at bay.



Reaching the UNIMOG he starts the engine...



Followed by the principal, major Zabuni and his bodyguard.



Repositioning, one black operative attempts to neutralize the RPG behind the radio tower with a M203 round...



...lightly wounding, supressing and shocking the gunners assistant.



With revving engine and screaming tires, the FOE driver takes off with major Zabuni climbing onboard at the last minute.



Leaving the burning Msotho behind and aiming for the opposite side of the battlefield the driver takes off.



The rebels pass the church, threatening the flank of the FOE defenders.



The FOE support gunner (followed by two AFWAR fighters) decides to cross the mine, supporting the advancing vehicle. Hiding on the other side of the hill is an american who counters the advance with a hand grenade.



The shocked AFWAR retreats back to town and the FOE-operator take up a new position behind an excavator.



The other black ops soldier fires his M203, trying to stop the fleeing Mercedes truck.



Scoring a hit! Wounding major Zabuni and killing his bodyguard. But the truck is intact and still heading for safety.



Another AMR technical enters the scene, prepared to ram the fleeing UNIMOG.



From behind the excavator, the FOE support gunner letīs the technical get some, killing the .50 operator (working as a gunner on a technical have a 100% mortality rate in the West African Republic so far).



Just when it looks like FOE will extract their customer safe and sound, a last AMR soldier surfaces from behind an old tank, aiming his RPG-7 and shooting.



It hits! Although the vehicle didnīt explode, all vital systems are knocked out, the driver unconsious and most importantly, major Zabuni is finally put to rest.

Aftermath

The remaining FOE operatives vacate the premises, seeing no need to risk their lives with approaching religious madmen supported by foreign special forces. Without the support of their south african allies, the AFWAR scatters and flee into the djungle.

The US black ops retreat to their hidden base with their mission objective fulfilled. What they do not realise at this point is that they have helped one of the most evil groups in Africa, the Army of Messiah Reborn, win their first major victory and secure a strategic asset in the form of a diamond mine, soon to be operated by slave labour and generating massive profits for the cause of "The Light". Now he will be able to procure heavy armaments and expand his bloody campaign in southern WAR and initiating a horror unheard of.

The Beast has awakened...
