[Commercial] Bartek's 17th Century Pin-Up Girls Playing Cards
« on: October 13, 2015, 11:09:02 AM »

I have received my advance copy of the new deck of pin-up girl playing cards from Bartek and Intimo of Poland, depicting uniforms of the 17th century, and expect my initial stock to arrive in the UK soon. I will, of course, announce when I have them in stock - this is just a taster. :-*

The new decks are bridge-card sized like the Napoleonics. This time they are on casino card, which means they are opaque if held up to the light. Again, the illustrations are 100% pin-up, not glamour, and you could probably safely use them as uniform references without causing heart failure among a passing maiden aunt. :D I expect the price per deck to be £8.50 including VAT as I have been able to get a better deal on them (the Napoleonics were £9.50). I expect standard delivery in the UK to be around £2.50.

The Napoleonics remain out of print and I can't get any more, though I understand that Bartek may be working on a new deck.

It depends on finances. Bartek isn't the wealthiest of men, because, of course, he has chosen to be an artist. (It could be worse: he could have chosen to sell toy soldiers...) He has again been helped to get this deck into production by lingerie store Intimo, which has stumped up the printing costs, and I've just ordered a shedload which should help his finances. I originally offered to back the deck, but he decided to stick to the team-up with Intimo.

Bartek has drawn and continues to draw Ancients, Dark Ages, Medieval, Great Northern War, Seven Years War, Napoleonic, and WWII pin-ups. If the 17th century deck sells well, it will finance another deck.

Like the Polish company I represent, Oddzial Osmy, Bartek tends to focus on his own country's history - hence half the 17th century deck is the Polish Lithuanian Confederation and its allies, which means, of course, that you get a some lovely pictures of Polish winged hussars. The 17th century deck is primarily aimed at the eastern European market, which he freely admits does not have much money, and any future deck may be westernised in its subjects.

I, personally, would like a SYW deck. I mean, who wouldn't?  :D

I don't look like that in SYW uniform.

But I suppose I don't wear a hussar uniform.... :~}

Gorgeous. And I will pick up a deck or two for sure (will you be at Warfare in Reading, Ian?)
But whilst it's completely understandable that his focus is on his own home region of eastern Europe, it is a pity that some more western European types don't feature, because that would certainly help his sales, one feels.

Well, maybe he'll do another deck in another period, and can be persuaded to make it more of a mix.
Because they are delightful, and make perfect presents :)

I will be at Warfare in mufti, most probably on the Saturday, along with Mike Lewis of Black Hat. I am not trading, and therefore cannot sell cards on the premises. Lunchtime is likely to be spent outside of Riverside, which has usually got a bit crowded and funky by late morning. Last time we toddled down to the nearest pub/carvery chain and made a return at 2.30pm-ish so we could wander around, talk to people and such in relative quiet.

For the benefit of my US customers who bought the Napoleonic deck, once the shopping cart knows delivery is to the US and VAT is therefore deducted, a single deck works out at $10.91 plus $8.09 delivery (overall $19.00) and the two-deck set works out at $20.54 plus $8.09 delivery (overall $28.63). The two-deck option is particularly good because the price per deck including delivery works out at $14.32. Bargain!
