Jack O'Bear
« on: October 17, 2015, 04:38:06 PM »
Hi all, as Hallowe'en is just around the corner I painted up an old citadel Jack O'Bear for my Otherworld Big Rubble project, this chap came out of the Beast Men box - I like the way his pose suggests pulling strings on a marionette, very appropriate for the Jack O'Bear.
As usually more pics and Otherworld info on my blog: http://www.posullivandesign.com/

One of my two favourite creatures from Runequest, along with the Walktapus! Perfect choice for this time of year. I'd never seen this Jack O' Bear sculpt before--I like it (and your paint job), though I feel the 'definitive' sculpt for these creatures still hasn't been done. Excellent work, though, and thanks for sharing!

Have you seen the one from Fenris?

Awesome figure and great paintjob. The fur are nicely detailed and the eyes have great effect.

Although I do wonder if they ever made bulkier jack'obears like in the monster book from 2006. Allthough the thin one is also really cool.

I've seen the Fenris sculpt of the Jack O' Bear, but have to say I don't much care for either it or their Walktapus. They definitely miss for me personally, though I like some of their other figures, especially the ducks! I think the best sculpts for the first two monsters are still the ones that used to be offered by Lance and Laser. It's a shame they're no longer available. (I think the Jack O'Bear was actually an early sculpt by Bob Murch of Pulp miniatures fame.)

yep those were great sculpts - too bad Armourcast discontinued them. Bob did two Jack O'Bears you can see the full range here: http://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=HeroQuest
