My take on Tom Meir's Lizard Warriors
« on: October 18, 2015, 10:47:18 AM »
I’m painting Tom Meier’s lizardmen and troglodytes at the moment. They are such great miniatures and I’m so pleased finally to getting around painting them. This is the first batch; The nine Lizard Warriors. They are such tiny, delicate models filled to the brim with details and character. Wonderful stuff.  I’ll return soon with some pics of his troglodytes.

Any thoughts?

Cheers
Martin

These are really great! I also like the boggy terrain!

The Lizard Lads look WONDERFUL...GREAT brushwork, bases, AND OUTSTANDING background scenery. VERY WELL DONE!

Brilliant work! I'd never have thought of it, but I love their purple colour--really suits them and is a nice change from green.

Great stuff!
Love the deep blue skin motif, though it's hard with such an intense blue to do shading without losing some of that intensity.

I recently did some Dragontooth lizardmen (this post and following pics):

Even more recently ordered some brilliant Otherworld frogmen, who are not quite finished yet, will post soon. I love seeing various renditions of the lizard or frog-man theme.

I have now also finished the larger cousins of the lizardmen warriors - Tojm Meier's epic troglodtytes. Huge, vile, bulky lizards. I love.

This time i went for the traditional "lizard green" to set them apart from my purple lizardmen.

These are great! Did you find them tricky to paint? I've just finished the chap with the shield above his head (on my Some Miniatures for Song ... thread), and I felt the same as when I painted the same model when I was a kid - that it's hard to do justice to the intricacy of Meier's wonderful sculpts. But you've certainly done them justice here!

They are terrific miniatures. I think I have some more of them lurking in the lead-hoard, but I also recall that I may have stripped some of them with a knife at some point in my childhood. Do you have any of the matching cold-one riders? I suspect those were actually sculpted by the Perrys (I could well be wrong), but the lizardmen are very much in the same style as the lizard warriors and the troglodytes.

Anyway, it's great to see these wonderful old models being given a spectacular new lease of life - great work!

Like them a lot. A well deserved pj on some great classics. Didn't like the purple on your last batch too much, but this kind of green makes the armour/weapons a bit more prominent and gives the lizards a suitably realistic ( and grim ) look.  :-*

These are lovely models with equivalent painting. The unusual basing looks somewhat swampy to me and therefore fits perfectly.

Very nice painting on some of my favorite old figures. I really like all the details on the bases, too.

Wow, I have never noticed that ad before, nor have I seen the actual figures.

Thanks people. They certainly were fun to work on. I think I need to track down some of the other lizards Meier sculpted back in the day.

Sadly I don't have cold one riders. But I sure would love to!
