Gotta love them shields!
And even more so as they are hand painted shields, which I reckon is much more realistic as they did not have shield transfers in 1066, did they?
Paul when you think about it, after a few battles I don't know how you would have told the difference between warriors from either side.
What I mean is if I had survived a battle and wanted to "upgrade" my equipment, I wouldn't think twice about picking up a shield, weapon or armour off a dead foe.
And if I didn't want to be mistaken on the battlefield as one of the enemy, perhaps I would repaint the shield but I doubt the paint job on my shield would be much to write home about.
