We started a Frostgrave campaign but in the desert because I have lots of terrain from playing Wargods of Aegyptus. Full(-ish) reports on my blog linked below.
Game 1:
http://ooh-shiny-complex.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/the-wizards-house-frostgrave-mini-aar.htmlThis game was a whitewash. My entire warband was wiped out and Steve, my opponent, took all the treasure. I did not fancy my chances for the second game, especially after my knight died in the post-game rolls. Mistakes were made in this game when using the Poison Dart spell and these contributed to my speedy demise.
Game 2:
http://ooh-shiny-complex.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/the-complex-temple-more-frostgrave.htmlI approached this game with a new warband but still led by a Chronomancer, the twin sister of my previous wizard. My plan was to grab treasure and scarper as fast as I could in a bid to close the arms gap a little bit. I still got bogged down in the fighting but good use of Fleet Foot, Leap and archery ensured a solid draw with most of Steve's warband including his witch knocked out on the field of battle. Although technically a draw, I account this battle a success because I started getting to grips with my Chronomancer's spells and how they work together. Also, I knocked out most of Steve's warband. Yay!
Well, I have begun closing the arms gap, and will settle for another draw in the next game if it means that my warband gains on Steve's once more, although I now think that there is a reasonable chance of winning despite his four level lead as a wizard. It's all about the tactics ...
I think we got all the rules right in the second game, but I do wonder about some of the comments regarding the campaign system. Neither of our games lasted longer than five turns, so a turn limit would not sort out any issues. I wonder if our game play is more aggressive than other players, or do we just use more blocking terrain so we have to close more quickly?
I did wonder about robbing the bodies of those left behind. It would have been nice to take the magic weapons that Steve got in game 1. On the other hand, that would also mean that I might lose them again later on. Swings and roundabouts, I guess.
