SYW Project, end in sight
« on: October 23, 2015, 09:48:03 PM »
Well I've just finished painting another four units of Austrians for my SYW collection.

That means I've now done 42 of the 56 Austrian units.  :D

I'll put that another way, with the Prussians and Russians (finished) I've now done 148 of the 162 units.  :D :D

I aim to be all done by New Year's Eve - my 52 Birthday. :D :D :D

Pics of new units here:http://olicanalad.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/four-more-units-of-austrians-only.html

Russians all done

Prussians all done

Can't wait to post a pic of the Austrians all done

Just awesome.  No other words needed.  And nice to shake your hand at Derby recently.

Thank you, all.

Whenever I read these kind of comments, I always wonder if you are all taking the wee wee. It's a bit like Graham, one of the lads, constantly referring to my wargame's room, on his blog, as "legendary" - except, I know for a fact he is taking the ....!

As Tony said to Saddam "Things can only get better."

Kind Regards,

Hard to say when it started. There was an interlude. However, 60% of it has been done in the last two years. The collection will be something over 2,400 figures all told.

Funny thing is, until two years ago i was quite happy with my SYW lot. Then, on a whim, I decided to do Zorndorf at one unit per regiment and, stupidly, increase infantry density from 16 to 24 man units. I did manage to get this done in six months - you can if you try.

It meant, of course, that once done I'd have to do the same treatment to the Austrians, but without the deadline of a show date to meet, I've let things slip. I've painted less than 800 pieces for myself this year, including the ones to paint before New Year, and including a couple of hundred things for the Italian wars - for another show.

Hey ho, we all get distracted.

800 pieces still means more than 2 per day. When I have a deadline, I can usually manage a maximum of 1 per day (when layering), maybe a bit more when blocking colours and shading with a wash.

It is a stunning output, by all standards, I think!
