1429 Siege of Orleans, Battle of the Herrings, Patay etc
« on: October 07, 2015, 09:52:44 AM »
As a follow on to the battle of Agincourt, I want to use my Perry figures to play other battles of the period.

I am looking for scenarios of battles that can be wargamed, especially around the 1429 period - siege of Orleans, Battle of the Herrings and Patey.

Please can you help me?
I would like pictures of tables and notes of scenarios and links to battle reports.

I have seen that there was a Lance and Longbow demonstration of the siege of Orleans at Salute in 2008.
I would like links to reports or photographs of this in particular.

Thank-you in advance

Mick

Oh, the siege of Orleans, I'd love to play that! Unfortunately, I can't help you with specifics, I got my information from Kelly deVries' biography of Joan of Arc, which covers the siege but I don't think there's enough detail to base a scenario on.

There is a brochure in the Lance and Longbow Society's shop called Jeanne La Pucelle and the Siege of Orleans, this might be helpful - I've never seen it, but their publications on the Wars of the Roses were quite useful. Have a look at http://lanceandlongbow.com/shop.php
Here's more info on the brochure: http://store.aetherworks.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=11554

There is also an Osprey: https://ospreypublishing.com/orleans-1429-pb

Keep us updated on the project, I for one would love to know more!

Cheers

Dear Shandy,

I have the Osprey and it is very good.

With the help of Google, I found this picture of the  1429 Siege of Orleans game by the Lance & Longbow Society at Salute in 2008.

There is also a description here at the bottom of the page.

I remember that game. My son played in the participation and won a Golden Snail trophy for his efforts of pushing the enemy from the city walls. I think he still has that trophy somewhere.

Mick, these would be my first two suggestions as a starting point.

Have you done much reading on the subject? There's a great article on the Battle of Rouvray in an old Hobilar- I'll try to dig it out for you.

Please feel free to remind remind me mate as I've got a million things to do at present :)

Dear Darrell,

I am using the Osprey book as the basis for my scenarios and scenery.
I am still at an early stage yet.

Coming to think of it I've got a disc with all the indices of the first 50 Hobilars (and indeed all the first 50 Hobilars) so it should be easy enough to find it for you if you want to see the article?

Darrell.

Thanks.

I have ordered "The Siege of Orleans and the Loire Campaign"  from Amazon and I hope to have it in a day or two.

I received the book "The Siege of Orleans and the Loire Campaign" today.

It is similar to an Osprey campaign series but fully illustrated with colour photos and illustrations on every page.
There are photographs of the locations, fortifications and several maps.
There are also several full colour illustrations including heraldry for all of the important characters.
It includes the Siege of Orleans, Battle of Patay and the Battle of the Herrings and many more.
It is perfect for my requirements.
