Spikes, finished and painted.
« on: October 14, 2015, 10:24:36 AM »
Like everybody else on the forum I have been working on Mad Max vehicles. Naturally a big point with them is spikes.  :D I screwed around with plasticard and wood a bit but wasn't happy with the results. So like like any good gamer I immediately decided to over engineer the whole thing and 3d print a few spikes. And I must say I'm rather happy with them.

Here is a few quick pictures of them in action, forgive the god awful colour of the car. It's roughly hotwheels size so 20mm ish.

Album link for a few more pictures.

Currently attached with loads of liquid greenstuff and super-glue since the car is softer plastic. Pictures don't do them justice and all that. In any case, I think I'm going to make a lot more for my other vehicles. And I came to the conclusion that if I slab my entire print bed full of them and account for my time and materials and all it would come down to a euro-cent a spike. Sounds quite reasonable to me. So I was wondering if any of you gents would be interested in a slab of spikes for your own projects.
Also I'm looking for suggestions, how would you like your spikes? Square, round or triangular? All on square bases and should those bases have rivets on them? All easily done, just not sure what would look best though I plan to go trough a few experiments but any ideas are welcome!

noice, im digging the spikes, it must be nice to have a 3d printer to pop out things you cant make otherwise. Now all you need are some big knobby wheels.

Its not instant magic like some people think, but as far as tools go its one of the most useful ones for sure. (ok, its little bit magic also) I have some nice wheels on the undercarriage for this chassis, also printed, since the typical wheels on toy cars are ass. But I just wanted to show my spikes, the rest of the vehicle will come when its done.

the magic goop machine did make great spikes. You get such nice resolution with that machine.

As for it being ace to be able to print gaming stuff up. Heck yes.

I used these to calibrate before printing the pulp rocket, actually.

Excellent idea, I have a couple of the same cars. May have to steal your idea and print out some spikes myself at my local library.

Spikes got some paint on him.

Extra fuel, extra engine.

The interior took to much effort to not show it. this car had black windows and no interior to speak of so I had to improvise. The plastic is soft enough that I can still remove the body.

Naturally. If you look closely at the engine you can see the line where the compression layer ends. With the barrel it is exactly on one of the ridges so its hidden.  :D
