Early to Mid 16th century civilians (armed & unarmed)?
« on: November 05, 2015, 04:42:11 PM »
Hello,

looking for, as the topic title says, both armed and unarmed civilians that would fit the timeframe of first half of 16th century.

Links and sale/trades offers appreciated, thanks. :)

There are plastic figures (1/72 scale) from   www.linear-b.com  called "Age of Tudors" that might fit the bill.

Assuming we're talking about 28mm?
Not much choice, but there are a few yet excellent civilians in Warlord's (former Pro Gloria) Landsknecht range: LINK.
For mid 16th century there's the "Tudor Crowd" by TAG: LINK.

Many thanks for the replies.

Yes, looking for 28mm stuff, should have been clearer about it. But many thanks for the link to 1/72 items, will pass it on to a friend who's more into that scale. I was unfamiliar with Linear-B, maybe he is too.

Mad Doc Morris, I haven't realised that Warlord had the ex-Pro Gloria available, silly me. Indeed there are some useful ones, where as the TAG people are too well off for my liking :)

Antti, did you check the perrys WOTR civilians?
Some might work for rural peasants of your timeline.

Some of Redoubt's ECW civilians might work as well, especially the women as the dress is fairly generic:

Maybe some of the Lead Adventure ones, too?

Check out Landsknecht/medieval artillery crews. These usually come without armour, empty handed and can be used as civilians...

And these from Graven Images (although they might be big- I haven't seen them in the flesh and I think Graven Images are a bit on  teh larger side of 28mm)

And if you want armed ones then there is always the Warlord Games Clubmen. Some have open hands and you can arm them however you wish.

These are some generic villagers from Reaper Miniatures. I am sure some of these are available in Reaper Bones too.

Edit: Following a bit more research these ladies would requite bonnets (konepelti) as all the images have women with their head covered. I think this traditionally was just for women of marriageable age and not the younger girls. Although girls got married very young in those days by our standards.

Edit again.. I think Konepelti is the wrong word- a literal translation into Finnish- and refers to the hood of a car. Not sure what the Finnish word for this type of head gear is...

Some of the old Foundry Seadogs and Swashbucklers packs are civilian/armed civilian types.

This gave me a chuckle :D Yes, "konepelti" is indeed the hood of a car. "Hilkka" is the Finnish word for the head gear.
