Plastic Frostgrave Cultist mash-ups plus a short review...
« on: November 08, 2015, 05:53:38 PM »
Having got my sticky mitts on a set of the new Frostgrave Cultists, I've built a few (mixing and matching with some pieces from other plastic kits) for my Game of Thrones project.

You can see these, along with a bit of a review (glowing) of aspects of the Cultists set, over here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=62778.495

Nice review, I do like that spearman. I think my first kit ash with these is going to be a post apocalyptic doom cult ;)
So many projects..... so little time.......

Nice work; the posing is excellent!

I was lucky enough to blag me a box at Crisis last Saturday. According to the Ainsty guy I bought it from, it was the second one of the only  two boxes available at the entire show! I missed out on the only two books though...

Can't wait to get to grips with them. There are some really interesting bits in there, but at first glance I must confess I was not very impressed by the sculpting of the cloth/robes. But maybe they'll still look good when painted...

At any rate; you're already showing that a lot can be done with these; keep it up! 8)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Thanks  :)

In both sets, the sculpting of the robes and accoutrements on the bodies is decidedly soft. Which is a bit odd, because the rest of the components are all very sharply done, so I can't quite work out why the bodies have that slightly amorphous look... The good news, as you surmise, is that they actually provide a very nice smooth basis for painting on. On the few I've done so far, the various layered robes take the paint very well indeed and look great. The soft detail on the sheathed daggers and slung bags on the original Frostgrave soldiers is not quite so good I'm afraid. This sort of detail is definitely better on the cultists.

Great minds and all that .... I just ordered a box, mostly for the cultists in a 'Ghosts of Mars with Guns' type project with what's left over to mash with Mantic ghouls as White Walkers for GoT.

Remember the sprue already has some undead arms and heads on it.

Yep, they'll be going into GoT with Perry and Mantic bits  :)

Great, as usual, Captain. But one think I hope for is a group-picture with all your GoT-Figures so far.

Indeed, once they are all painted, a group shot will be forthcoming  :)
