Mutants and Death Ray Guns - A Beginning!
« on: February 27, 2016, 04:41:01 PM »
Hey guys,

Took the plunge based on the recommendation earlier and opted for Mutants and Death ray guns. The idea will be not to randomly roll up characters, but rather pick abilities that fit the models. I'll be going for a hard-bidden and gritty-style K9 unit whilst my wife opted for cleaner (and more retro) cream space suited heroines. We'll be aiming for 5-8 a side and ignoring most of the upkeep system and instead just playing a series of narrative linked games as our dogs and gals improve.

So far I have the first pup painted for my side, Pugly A'sin.

Painted him mostly with a sponge and some washes to give him that weathered feel. He's from Hasslefree as Smudgester (B) - I've also got Smudgester, another (B) to convert with a pose change for the head and Megalynn as their (little) handler. The big muscle will be Chipster (linked) and I'll have a few little Lesser Mawes as alien dogs.

Just for more variety though, does anyone know of any other armoured bipedal dogs at all? Not counting Hasslefree, I don't recall seeing many around!

Nice work.  He'd work well for Blasters & Bulkheads as well.

I think he needs a bowler hat, like Churchill wore ;)

Very nice work on the Pug :) ... and the addition of the las barrel end really suits the weapon :)

Are you filling your team with armoured pugs or are you branching out with the rest of the dog range from Hasslefree?:

and the other Pug: http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=smudgester~hfsf109&category=sci%252dfi-%26%0D%0Aweird-war~sci%252dfi-aliens

I am very tempted by Chip... but have a small group of pugs / associated small characters that may not suit Chip's large size... Hmmm...

Hey Inso! Yeah, mentioned the other armoured pug in the post. Using both, plus another rifle one, plus the little power armoured girl. I'll be going for Chip as the heavy hitter for some contrast, though I'll be giving Hamlet a miss - not quite the same build or aesthetic.

Wow, been a while eh? I've not updated since I've been waiting a month for a delivery of a martian battle mat for this game and the last straw on that was the courier company failing to deliver 3 times in a row then losing my parcel for a day before saying it'd take a further week to deliver after finding it. Killed the mood a bit, but ah well.

I have however managed to get 2 more pugs, the leader and 2 alien pugs finished up. I've also made a slight start on Chipster and the third alien pug. Annoyingly, still can't find the 4th mini mawe.

Group shot so far -

After the last 2 figures are finished I'll starting work on the 5-strong warband for my wife, the space heroines.

Brilliant :)

I look forward to seeing Chip finished and shown with the rest of the squad so I can see how big he is :)

Cheers guys! The pug grubs are the lesser mawes sold by Hasslefree, linked here - http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=lesser-mawes-x4~hfsa310&category=sci%252dfi-%26%0D%0Aweird-war~sci%252dfi-aliens Annoyingly I've lost number 3, which is a pain...

Chip is about 30mm tall from bottom of feet to the top of his head, so the 22(ish)mm pugs roughly come up to his pecs. With any luck I'll have him finished pretty soon.

That orange stripe on the armour is a really nice touch. They look very nice indeed :)
